Default Renaissance Wax- Application?

I took the advice of many of the collectors here on the Forum, and purchased some Renaissance Wax/Polish. Now- what is the recommended surface preparation (blued finishes) before using the wax (I assume that any gun oil/grease should be removed)? Also, do you use the wax on your "shooters" as well as on your collectables? After shooting and cleaning (Hoppe's, Gunslick, etc.), does the cleaner also have to be removed before waxing? Thanks.

I don't know what the official prep is but I use the wax on everything from blued to stainless, after cleaning and drying with a patch and cloth. I only apply a bit of oil to the moving parts.

I actually have used Ren Wax on magazines too to keep them cleaner and fingerprint free.

A little Ren Wax goes a long way. A couple of light coats, buffed out well, look really good.

On guns you use frequently, the solvent used in cleaning will remove the wax, so it may not be to your best advantage to use it in that application. Any other guns, it is one of the best protectants around.

I use denatured alcohol as a prep on surfaces to be waxed. On non-waxed surfaces, light coat of a quality gun oil.

On my "users", when I come in from the field/range, I simply wipe down with a Break Free moistened cloth, dry with a cloth, and re-wax lightly. Doesn't take much wax, at all.

I think Hoppe's will remove the wax, don't think Break Free will.

Blued, stainless, stocks , every thing that moves, or doesn't, gets the wax.

Great on nice knives too.

Default pre wax

if ya really want 'um clean before you apply the wax, clean/polish 'um with flitz polish, if you've never used it before you'll be surprised what will come off an otherwise clean looking gun, you'll also be amazed at how good a blue steel gun will look after a flitz'in.

Just don't get too vigorous or frequent with the flitz, it will remove the blue if you over do it. It also works wonders on nickle plated guns.

After I'm done cleaning I wipe down with a dry cloth, then wax. Just like Brylcreem, if you're old enough to remember it, a little dab'l do yah! Let is set a minute after application, then polish. I use it on all my guns, collectors and shooters, steel and wood.
After a ton of reading, I switched to Miltec 1 for all my lubricating.
A small can should last a long time, and the stuff won't yellow or anything as it builds up, it just protects better!
