I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but what is the difference between a Model 14 and a K-38 Masterpiece?

I'm (kinda) looking for a revolver to shoot bullseye with and earn the Distinguised Revolver shot badge.....

None there the same only they called them pre Model 14's before 1957 and afterwards the Model 14 as for the Model 15 its a k38 also known as the Combat Masterpiece because of the 4 inch barrel...

They called them a K 38 Target Masterpeice. The Pre thing happened long after the model numbers came along. Pretty hard to be Pre something that does not yet exist.

The pre 14 is what is called before the ones made before S&W assigned model numbers. I have a K38 5 screw and a Model 14-4 and I do think they are different based on age and the designation.

Two names for (basically) the same gun.... both are K-frame, 6", blued with adj. sights. Very minor differences between models depending on DOB.

You won't find a better bullseye .38 revolver anywhere.

k-38 means k frame .38 caliber.

All model 14 are k-38 but not all k38 are model 14.

I think some of these guns were available in shorter barrel length's- seems like I saw one on an occasion with a 2" or 2.5" barrel?

Maybe it was re-barreled. Even with the short barrel, the gun was surprisingly easy to shoot accurately...
