Default How unique is a 17-6 without the full underlug?

I am negotiating with a person to trade one of my firearms for what is apparently a 17-6 that was a transitional version which is to say that it does not have a full underlug. Is this somewhat more valuable than a regular 17-6? If so, by about how much? How is a 17-6 (without underlug) different than a model 18? (Which up until know, is what I was really looking for)

MOST 18's have a tapered 4" barrel and most 17's have a non-tapered 6". HTH Joe

I believe the poster is refering to the 4 inch lugless heavy barrel 17.
Yes, they are seldom encountered. The heavier barrel being the only difference from a Model 18.

I think model 18's only were made in 4 inch half lugged, the model 17 had full lug 6 inch barrel. What is the price on it??

I was under the impression that the 17-6 usually has the full underlug. Is that not correct? The pistol is without papers or box and we are working on a trade, the value on his 17-6 is plus or minus $600.

The SCSW states some early 17-6's slipped thru with the heavy non full lugged bbl which the 17-5 was made with. The 17-5 replaced the 18.The numbers of 17-6 with the hvy bbl's are not known. Had a 4" and it was hard to sell at 2-3 gun shows and seemed to bring no value higher then a regular model 17. Larry

I was wrong, the value that the person placed on the no lug 17-6 was $700. No box or papers. There was a turning mark on the cylinder. Excellent condition as far as the finish goes and I believe they were the original grips but I ended up passing on the deal.

I purchased a M17-6 about a year ago and it had the same lug as the earier models.

The target is from a sand bagged rest at 50'.

I purchase a 17-6 no lug at a gun show. No box or papers, but excellent condition. I think I paid $500.00 and was glad to do it - only one I have ever seen.
