So what do you fine folks think of my small collection of S&W's. The first is my M-48 (.22 Magnum); next my M-28/2, 6" barrel (.357 Magnum); and finally my M-19/4 (.357 Magnum). DOB's in order are 1959, 1978, and 1980. And yes there is a Colt .38 Special Diamondback in the mix as well. Every one an amazing shooter (and loud). :-)

You are off to a very good start. You probably could trade that "off brand" gun for another real nice S&W......Just kidding,I have one of those myself.

Questions like this always fascinate me. ***EDITED***

I took the original grips off for protection and replaced them with Pachmayrs. The .22 also has a set of stags.

M-19/4, 2 1/2" barrel, .357 Magnum in Pachmayr Grips.
M-28/2, 6" barrel (Highway Patrolman) .357 Magnum in Pachmayr Grips.
M-48, .22 Magnum in Pachmayr Presentations and Stags.

WT, I asked out of the fact that I am a novice owner of what I consider some fine fire arms. I inherited 17 guns from my father's estate. 5 pistols (those above plus a Sig P-220) and several pre-64 Winnys, a Savage M-1899, and more. Every one I would put up against anyone elses. My favorites are the Winny M-54 (30-06) and Winny M-70 (.300 H&H). I DO NOT care. I ask so I can learn.

Plus one for Raider's post! Jpmccr, good looking family you have there, and it's good to adopt a weak sister as well. Just kidding I own a few Colt's too. Carefull now, buying S&W's can be adictive and harmfull to your wallet!

I have my Dad's pre 64 Winchester Mdl 70 in 300 H&H.

I wouldn't even guess how many elk and moose he took with that rifle.

I got a Remington 300 H&H and went with him on my first elk hunt at age 14. I got a 5 point bull.

Been a 300 fan ever since.

You have some great guns, use them and enjoy and make some new memories.

You've got a collection that's better than that of many average people (serious deep-pocketed true collectors aside), plus you have the ties of those firearms to your father and perhaps earlier generations as well. Cherish them, and the memories that go with them. I have my late father's guns (all five of them), and I'd much rather have Dad back but the guns provide memories and comfort in them.

As for the S&Ws, you have some really nice pieces there, particularly since they are of their respective vintages (very good years, all!). Older blued S&Ws are in high demand, and will continue in that manner.

Congrats on a nice collection, and welcome aboard!

Noah

That's a solid set of guns there. Nice to see a Colt right next to a S&W for comparison purposes. The Colt Diamondback and the S&W m19 look pretty similarly sized to me though the Colt's cylinder might be smaller. I don't have any Colts yet but would like to.

Very nice collection. And what you have is very pricey - I hope the next thing you "collect" is a good safe. Get a bigger safe than you think you need - they fill up quickly.

Noah, I know how you feel. Took them all to my Mom's in VA (she lives out in the country) and "played". Came back with only 6 .45 rounds for my P-220. What a great bunch of shooters.

I have never really been a wheel guy. Trained on a 9MM in the Air Force and that was my first handgun. But let me tell you; that snub nose .357 feels strong and solid in my hand. My wife it got to play. Didn't like the .22; said it was heavy with the 6" barrel. She did like the snub noses though. I let her shoot .38s as I didn't think she could handle .357 Magnums. Everyone was really surprised when I popped off a round with .22 Magnum. They looked like I fired a stinking canon!!!

I would be hard pressed to pick a CCW between the 5. One of the snubs for sure. And yes the Colt is a nice piece too. :-)
