Default Gold lettering...factory or aftermarket

I've noticed some revolvers that have the "Smith & Wesson" and caliber on the barrel (".357 Magnum", for example) in gold lettering. This is not on engraved or commemorative guns, just your average six shooter. I'm thinking that this is some type of aftermarket application of gold film, or was this lettering done at the factory?

After market. Don't think the factory did any. It can be removed.

Yea, it's aftermarket stuff. You can remove it with Hoppe's #9 and a nylon bristled brush.

The only S&W's that I can think of right off hand that came with gold lettering on them, were the model 544 Texas Ranger Limited dition guns in .44/40.

Here is one I bought. It doesn't bother me either way so I just leave it and the jeweled trigger as they are.

Not very good pictures but the lettering is gold painted.

I've used acetone with an old tooth brush. the first application will remove almost all of the silver/white/gold but will still leave residue. Let it driy and do it again 2 applications seem to remove all of it.
