Default Model 29-2 Presentation Cases?

Picked up a nice 29-2 sans case. I would love to find one from that era with the accessories. What would I expect to have to pay? I checked the classifieds and didn't see anything.

Dan - usually around $30 to $40 for 4 pc kit (fluted screwdriver, mop, brush, looped rod).

Condition is the key on this one !

Here is what $130 looks like about a year ago.

I tend to overpay on everything though !

Here is the early "clamshell case">

But thats not for a box and accessories and paper?? I would expect pay well over $100 for what the OP asked for. I myself would like one but I don't think I want to pay for it, but then again, my mint 29-2 6 in nickel deserves it

I believe I have a presentation case made for a 6.5" 29-2. Send me a private message if you are interested, and I'll dig it out.

Misread the post and missed "sans" - thought OP was looking for tools only.

Default Serial # and barrel length?

I believe there were three different style cases supplied with the 29-2 over the years, not counting differences for the various barrel lengths. Doc’s thread should help identify they style correct for your gun.

Agree with Chad. Started with a clamshell and moved thru 2 more types. A serial number of the gun would help place its era.

Default Mahogany Presentation Cases

The Mahogany Presentation Case was used for N frame guns from 1960 thru 1983. During this time period S&W used 4 different type of liners. The 29-2 was made from 1962-1982. The earlier 29-2, an S serial prefix, cases are a bit harder to find. All 4 of the different types of liners had problems withstanding the test of time so it is difficult to find a case in good shape. The type of liner, barrel length, and condition will determine the price. I restore the liners for these cases and have some extra cases on hand. If you email me I might be able to help you in your quest for a case.

This is a before and after pic of the type case used from 1979-1983.

Hope this photo works.

Here's the gun. The granite makes a nice backdrop, but the wife would like something a little more out of the way.

Dan...I can tell you the correct type of case if you give me the first three digits of the serial number followed by Xs. For example, N123XXX.

N471XXX

Do you happen to know the approximate year of manufacture? I've tried internet searches but can't seem to find this.

Thanks

Dan...when I double click on your thumbnail, the picture comes up full size. Gun 4 Fun is correct about the case. You can find them on ebay quite regularly.

Hey Sandso
S&W did not produce a case for a 4 1/2" barrel length. You do not have your email in your profile! Please email me at my new email address, with a picture of your liners, if possible?

[email protected]

Thanks for the inquiry.

I recently picked up a M29-2, SN: N69xxx, 1972 Mfg. It was in a presentation case with all the tools but the felt was green. What are your thoughts about this sir?
Thanks, Gene

Gene...the blue lining in the case your 29-2 was shipped in deteriorated rapidly and had to be replaced with a cloth lining. In your case, the cloth was green. I have a case relined with green cloth and two with blue cloth.

Hello Sir,
My 29-2 SN is N690xx. Is the felt blue or green or did in come in both types. Thank you Gene

I have a 29-2 SN: 690xx that came in a presentation case that looks like the liner was replaced with green felt. Is this correct for this 1972 4 1/2" 29-2 ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Gene

Is what correct, Gene?

Is the green felt correct? No. Was the blue flocking replaced with green felt? Yes.

I know, I'm easily confused.

It's unlikely that your gun has a 4 & 1/2" barrel. But, I'm often wrong on a wide variety of topics.
