If I can't get production numbers, where can I find descriptions of each dash change and/or production years? I am new to collecting S&W's even though I had some in the 1970's. Will the STD Catelog of S&W give me these? I just bought the History of S&W that I am reading. Thanks.

Yes, you want at least one copy of the SCSW#3. It should answer many of your questions. Make room in the safe for more guns if you buy the book.

The history may be an interesting read, but the SCSW is a much more useful reference source and will give you the dash change details. it will also narrow down production dates based on serial numbers and list special and limited editions. I find mine to be very useful and well worth the money. And it's an interesting read also.

That's where we learned all this interesting information. You didn't really think we were that smart, did ya?
(Well, at least I'm not).
