Default Time to bring thread to the front of the line

My new to me M27-2 The walnut magnas are ugly and useless to me even with Tyler T's so I got these coke palm swell Grips from Mr. Kurac and love them.

Default The third in my modest collection

This one, made in 1978, has a couple of small places on the barrel, but was too good a buy to pass.

Only got one 27-2.

'75, 27-2, my most favorite .357, balances perfectly in the hand.

Actually walked into a store years ago and saw two identical 27-2s, this and another one and bought both. Later sold one to fund other S&Ws. The nickel on this was LNIB; however, I subsequently got a 13-2 nickel that was "cloudy". I then realized that nickel could be scratched and "funky".

I hate this, I hate this!! The last five S&Ws I looked at to purchase in CA had rubber grips. Seems the owners want to get another $$ bump from the grips. The owner wants $700 for this and it's not complete. I've been collecting ex-LEO guns and for me, rubber is O.K. BUT not on a N frame w/a wooden box.

Any thoughts?

Well, I think $700 is a little high w/o the proper grips, but at least you get two screwdrivers and not a mop!

700 might be high but for 700 and a few hundred more you can get a set of Keith grips and have a nicer revolver than a new classic S&W. When it comes to older S&W's I can rationalize anything

This is the gun that brought me to this forum. A just-inherited 1958 Model 27 (no dash) that belonged to my wife's late grandfather and, as stated earlier in this thread, has been "humiliated with a set of Plastic stags." Since it was grandpa's gun, the cheap Franzite stags will stay.

Excuse the poor pic. When I get tired of learning about S&Ws, I'll take the time to learn to shoot a proper photo.

Default 27-2 Photo Crazy!

This thread is so inspiring, what a great collection of model 27's.
There are so many good photos here that I wanted to try my hand and take a few shots of my 1975 27-2, 3 1/2" barrel. Well I ended up swapping grips, and trying to be a little more artistic with the photos. Here are the best of my session:

This is the gun as I purchased it. Target stocks, trigger and hammer.

I then put on a set of Magnas and took a few more.

Lastly, I replaced the Magnas with a set of Patrick Grashorn's beautiful Elk Stag grips. He does excellent work at very reasonable prices. These really change the look of this gun.

I think you made the right choice staying with Patrick's grips, but those targets you have are amazing. Fantastic grain.

Wow, I know now how inadequate my existance is. I must make amends. I'm going to the next gun show and taking this darn Diamondback with me, and try to find me a "shooter" 27.

I've really loved this thread. I'm surprised, however, at how few 27-3s show up. Most of you seem to have 27-2s. I'm the proud owner of a 27-3, perhaps my favorite revolver. It's strictly a shooter, has a little wear on it, but I love it.

I have been lucky enough to find two 27's in the last month Here they are:

In the last 2 months I picked up a 27-3 Nickle 6" and this week a 27-2 Blue in 3 1/2" I was content, happy until Boykinlp threw out that 5". I guess I'd better deal with the 27 addiction and find one. Dang Boykinlp that 5" is beautiful. Tired of it yet? :-)

27-2 in 3.5" Yep them there handles is Goodyears, not dark exotic wood. I'm thinking custom wood. I picked it up last Wednesday and yet haven't come to grips with the Issue.

The 27-3 Nickle 6" was my first one. It built the fire for those to follow.

Nice find NA225! My born on date is in '66 too. I'd love to find a 27 from that year. Closest I've come is my 27-2 6.5" from 1967.

I think this is one of the best threads I've ever come across. And I have determined this is my favorite picture of any gun....ever. Just outstanding! Doublesharp, I will PM my information for inclusion in your will.

Thanks to all for contributing such fine images.

Today I picked up my second S&W revolver (first being a Model 25 that I picked up this past winter) - this time I got a Model 27 "no dash" with serial number S1919XX. Set me back $730, but I'd say it's well worth it...

Damn that is a deep blue...

Better pics to come - these are from the sales posting:

I just recently bought this 27-2 - won't be my last. Probably the nicest gun I've ever shot and a work of art at the same time:

Here's the pics I promised of my 27 "No Dash". There are three details that smudges the glory: 1) The front sight has a small ding to it (which I think I can knock out ever so gently); 2) Someone who didn't know how to do it properly has pried loose the side plate; and 3) The original grips are lost to time.

I still love it though:

Regarding the 27 above, what would have been the correct grips for it (as delivered from the factory)?
The guy I bought it from said it had ill-fitting (no doubt!) K-frame grips when he bought it.
