Heck, I would have gone and bought a brand new Glock to even swap with him for that!
I should have a long tube 27-2 in nickel to post up pics of by the end of next week in this thread. It will join my 3 1/2", 4" and 5" nickel 27-2's and my one blue 6 1/2" 27-5 of my 27 collection. Now all I'll lack is a 6" barrel to add for all common barrel lengths.

Obviously that guy doesn`t know which way is "up." I know a lot of people on this forum don`t like Glocks, but to me this is a good illustration of their purpose as I see it- trading them for S&W`s to people who have no taste.

I just finished taking a scope off this gun today. I was bolted to the rear sight on frame and squesed clamp on the front end. Had to find a rear sight assembly, and stocks. Did some looking on ebay and found both needed items, were not cheep, buy this is what I ended up with, needs a coat of ren wax now.

I've added one since last posting here in 2010. Have had this one since late 2014, but have scarcely played with it. A trip to the range with it a couple of weeks back made me ask myself: "Why have I neglected it?"
Toted it all weekend after that trip to the range.
In case anyone didn't already "know" this; the 3 1/2-inch (probably 4-inch as well) N-Frame .357 Magnum is superior to all other .357 Magnum revolvers on earth for carry purposes. Better than K-Frame Combat Magnums, better than L-Frames, and certainly better than pipsqueak J-Frame .357 Magnums. No Pythons, no Korths need apply.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
I cannot gain a feel for '50s production N-Frame guns. With a serial number of S 1242XX I'm assuming this one dates to 1952-1953.

Here is my latest addition to my model 27 collection. It's a well preserved 27-2 with 8 3/8 barrel I just received yesterday. It has a born on date of around 1979-1980 according to the SCSW. I must say I really like the way that long tube 27 feels in hand. Weather permitting, I feel a range visit with it tomorrow afternoon.

Question for the Model 27 group... I'm more of a Model 28 fan but have a Model 27 6.5" from the Classic Series, the 27-9. Not a real 27, right?
Great gun! I did some looking around and it seems like all Model 27's 6" or longer have the patridge front sight. Maybe you guys are used to this, but I would prefer to have a serrated red ramp sight instead. I'm interested in all thoughts about this subject.
If it's not too blasphemous, does one know where I can get the correct red ramp sight? Thank you!

27-3 wearing Kurac's and a new side plate.
Came as a 357-44 B&D conversion
With original side plate.
I got talked into keeping the original side plate and 357-44 cylinder. Probably never use them, but worth keeping.

My first time here gang. It prob won't be my last...lol I have a question for somebody on here that is best equipped to tell me about a 357 I acquired thru a trade deal, a pre 27 N Frame. Me & S&W are at a loss as to any info, details, or anything else except the manufacture date(circca 54-55). The SN has an "S" stamped in front of it.
I have pics & numbers for it.
Needin Help.

Here are my two 27-1 revolvers (the 6" was bought in Baton Rogue in 2016).

I have found "letting go" of a 3.5" 27 to be an impossibility... perhaps it is something genetic or molecular. 
Once they come to live in my safe they seem to be here to stay.

I've been working on the five nickel's, but only have two of the five at this time. The "hunt" is sometimes frustrating, but that's what makes collecting so much fun.

Welcome to the Forum, though a bit late. It appears your post got kinda overlooked.
We need most of the serial number to date your revolver. You can post like S 123xx if you wish. Details like finish and barrel are helpful. Pictures are usually the best info you can provide.

I love your collection!!! It is outstanding and your photos are always great as well. 
Unfortunately, no, zero, none, jack, bumpkus 3.5" 27-1s have decided to move in with the rest of the the RKmesa 357 55+ retirement community yet...  As a matter of fact, the only 27-1 that I own is an 8.375"er, which was one of the earlier guns to be added to my collection.
I keep waiting to find that perfect factory engraved 27-1 pinto to fill that hole. My guess is that I'll probably have to wait a long, long time...

How come when I get a notice of a reply to this thread it comes up to post #475 instead of the current reply?

I've owned this Model 27-2 (shipped May, 1969) for a long time. I bought it at Chuck's Firearms in Buckhead, GA, and I bought several nice revolvers from this shop a long time ago.
Jack Lesher sold this one to me (Chuck's son). It has a matching box and is one of my favorite revolvers:

While I'm here I'll post a couple of my favorite shooter-grade 357's:
A 1965 6.5" 27-2 that has lost most of its bluing coming in and out of a holster:
A July 1957 8.375" that also has had a lot of use. The rear sight is a replacement, the front sight has had a gold bead added to it, the trigger has been smoothed on the edges, it has a trigger stop and it shoots like a dream.
This June 1959 5.5" barreled 27 started off as something longer. Someone did a nice job of shortening the barrel - why 5.5"? I have no idea, but with a Nelson Ford trigger job, it too is a delight to shoot...
The ones above don't get a lot of screen time, but they do get a lot of range time...

Yes, they are Ahrends in Cocobolo, and they are great to shoot. Ahrends really knows how to make grips that work and work well.
