I received my Dad's Model 10-5 with the 6 inch barrel in the 90's and it was in mint condition and later I bought a 4inch to go with it.

Dad's 6 inch

4 Inch Companion

Picked up the 6" the other day so now I have a set of all the barrel lengths. 2", 4", 5", and 6", all 4 screw model 10's.

Default Ah, I don't have mine now...

Had one. But I'd like to have another one with a barrel 3-4 inches.

Here's one of mine... This one is a "new in box" model 10-5 square butt from 1968... Great pistol from a historic time.

That's a beautiful pistol. The rear ramp of the gun near the hammer looks more streamlined/angled then other 10’s. Is that an illusion? Also, what grips are on it?

Prior to the frame change in the mid-to-late '90s, the frame curve along the hammer was indeed more arched and "swoopy"; after, it became a few degrees closer to diagonal and a bit more boxy.

Thank you. I appreciate the info. It is subtle but distinctive. Time to run upstairs ands check on a few babies.

Greetings- I have an opportunity to pick up a 1966 Model 10-5 with tapered 4" barrel. The pistol shows no wear signs on the barrel or front of the cylinder. There is a minor blemish in the blue on the right side. The only real marks on the pistol appear to be cylinder score. The asking price is $475. Any opinions? (I will try to attach the owners photo.)

In that condition? Jump on it! Well, on second thought, you might try to get him down to 425, but if he starts to get angry, pay what he's asking. As you probably know, most Model 10's that old show lots of wear or are rather beat up.

Greetings- That is exactly what I was thinking. The seller is a fellow officer, and it's his father's revolver. I just wanted to make sure the price was fair to all. Respectfully Submitted, 641

Take the deal. You can't buy that gun brand new for twice that amount. They don't 1966 models any longer. Would make a great shooter!

10-5 and 10-6 shooters. Both sent out within the same year or 2. 66-67.

I picked this pistol up this morning, for $450. Very pleased. The grips have matching serial numbers inside. No signs of wear on the revolver other than the cylinder turn marks. The lock-up feels like it just left the factory! Did I say, "very pleased?" My first model 10, I would definitely consider purchasing another.

Some beautiful work horses in this thread . Just picked up this one today by the S/N 2D199xx looks like it was shipped @1977. Sometimes I can't believe that work guns were kept in such pristine condition.

now i need to find some correct grips-factory. It is a 10-5 nickle

Love the Model 10! I have a 4-inch HB 10-6 (1976) and my "new" favorite S&W, my custom 10-5 (1975).

This gun has had quite a bit of updating. The good men at Amerigun did the front sight. I really like it.

It's nickel, and thank you.
Model 10's are all nickel or blue.
A Model 64 is the stainless version of the Model 10.

Default 10-5/first post!

Just picked up a 10-5 Serial C679xxx which I believe would put it made between 1964-1966. Was wondering everyone's thoughts on cerakoting something like this? She is a bit rough, and indeed I bought her for this purpose. Paid 200 and got a box of 127gr PMC also.

Default A well earned tribute to the Double Action Revolver............

..........that set the Law Enforcement standard for Decades.

Here is an old duty revolver of mine, a model 10 HB that was destroyed in a house fire in 1993.

It now rests in this frame on the wall in my library.

Lots of M&Ps are probably resting in drawers, and gun safes all across the country but like those old timers, this old timer frequently carries one with me.

This is the model 10 I was first issued when going on the sheriff's Dept. along with the model 60 back-up

I do not know how old it is but I believe the Dept bought it new Model 10-6 Serial# 87114K6

I believe the Model 60 was issued to me in about 1978 ( we had to buy our own firearms but we got a substantial discount buying thru the Dept.) Model 60 Serial# 75192 B7

Default Here's my pencil barrel 6 inch with wide hammer spur.

Love my model 10. Tight as the day it was made. Parked with wide hammer spur. Anyone tell me about it? A original S&W holster as well.

Was my duty weapon when I was a deputy sheriff in California back in the 50's, though it was probably not a 10-5 as mine was issued to me in January, 1953. Trigger pull = religious experience.
