The "leastest,"
The "ugliest,"
The "purdyest,"
and the most unique shots that include Model 10s!
Yep . . . let's see all them "Cadillacs!"

I'll start:
Well worn, seldom shot. Has character, and unqueness.

A 1955 pre-model 10. Im not sure what the technical term is for such guns but its a 1955 (dated with serial numbers) and is not marked as a model 10. Love the gun, looks like its seen its fair share of days in the holster but its still able to hit almost anything. I thought having fixed sites was supposed to make a gun slightly less accurate, but this baby can still hold its own compared to my 19-5. Not a show piece but just a good alround working gun. It was my first revolver and made me a lifelong S&W fan.

Here we go again! My two favorites... a 10-5 5" and a 10-8 3" HB. Both get shot weekly. The 3" 10-8 (DAO) was my off-duty gun in LA in a previous life. The pre-model 10 4" (bottom photo) I picked up in a gunshop in LA (when there were still gunshops in LA) for $300.00 OTD. No one wanted an old revolver then. It's been fired, but not much.

M10 and M & Ps. I also have a 2 inch M10 roundbutt.

I consider the K-frame S & w .38s "relaxing" handguns. They are easy to reload for and relaxing to shoot. Comfortable to carry as well. Great handguns. Almost like .22s.

Here are a couple of mine. Firstly is a former NYSP 10-6 heavy barrel in .357 magnum.

Next is a 10-5 with a five inch barrel.

Lastly is my 10-0.

Here's a couple of uglies, never before featured on the Forum. Whenever a Model 10 or M&P feature thread appears, I put the better ones out and never choose to show these two. I think you can see why.

Nonetheless, they are both in perfect shooting order with sparkling bores and stand ready to serve.

M&P from 1954

Model 10-5 from 1975

bmcgilvray,

If you look close at my 4 inch M10 it too is very blue-worn. But it shoots to POA and it carries well. Much better than a pristine one that would not shoot to POA and I'd be afraid to carry.

Thank you all for showing. All of those M&P/M10s are fantastic; the pretty ones, the rough ones..so many ages, sizes, grips, they all just scream Smith&Wesson! I've been considering owning one (or several now). The quest begins!

More great guns! Prices seem to be "lower" for a lot of the M&P/M10 variations compared to L & N frames! As much as I like my L and N frame wheelies, I own more K frames. They just seem to handle better for me. I was born in 1949, so a post-war M&P is where I'll start!

Very nice guns. I don't have a camera right now or I would post some pics. I have 3 10-6's. These are by far my favorite guns to shoot and carry.

Here is my 10-6 from 1971, along with my own handstitched, deep boned, leather rig in which it is carried. (Be kind, this was only my second holster...)

My Dad bought this Model 10 2 inch in 1964. It was his every day carry gun as an FBI agent until 1984, when he retired. He gave it to me about 5 years ago, along with the original receipt. The battle damage on the cylinder, barrel and stock was the result of a fight over this revolver with a bank robber in Chattanooga.
My son will get this when I am gone.

My first model 10, a 10-8 from about 1980 wearing target stocks:

And my second, which I acquired recently, a 10-6 from 1969 that was a Michigan State Police gun.

There was a time when I was a much younger, and I was falling under the spell of Jeff Cooper, and the IPSC crowd, when I didn't care for the Model 10. It was sort of quaint and old fashioned. It looked like something a cop named "O'Riley would carry, while wearing one of those long double brested overcoats. Fixed sights? A 4" barrel? Blue steel? Those skinny grips? Who wanted one of THOSE. Maybe some storekeeper in Missouri, but not somebody who knew anything about guns. Ok. I was young AND stupid.

Now that I'm quaint and old fashioned myself, I can appreciate the Model 10 for what it is. Maybe the most battle tested revolver, if not handgun ever. And a delight to shoot at the range or knocking around the woods. The classic simplicity has an elegance of it's own.

I've got two of them now. A 10-5 with a 5" barrel, and a 10-7 with a 4". The 10-7 had some very small spots of rust on the right side, and the cylinder. So small I didn't even notice them until I took the pictures. Under the flash and the macro setting they jumped out. With a little elbow grease and some Flitz, it's pretty much gone now.

My 10-14, it's in the process of getting "worked" by me, it will be "plugged", and it has a semi-target hammer installed. Also plan to add a Wilson Combat mainspring, extended firing pin, and possibly a Hogue wood grip. I leave most of my Smiths factory bone stock but decided this would be a good one to play with. The Model 10 is possibly my favorite revolver of all time, at least my favorite S&W, but it's a tough claim to make.....I have decided to focus on all of them from the 10 "no dash" to the 10-14 and try to collect as many variations as possible. The M&P's are classic revolvers but I haven't gotten into them yet.....only have a Victory so far from that "era".

This is a thrashed 10-10 that came in from Japan, it was a security or police gun, or some such. I got a re-blued cylinder from an earlier M&P or a 10, I don't know which, and dropped it in to replace a banged up one that was in there. I changed the trigger to an earlier .265 so I could add a trigger shoe, and also added a DAO hammer from an earlier gun. Looks like a pile of dog **** but shoots like a dream, the DA action is super slick. I trimmed a little off the strain screw to get it "just right", I usually don't do this but I don't use this one for carry or HD, it's just more of a "DA training gun" for me.

This 10-5 6" was an old policeman's gun, traded in at a local gun shop a few years back. I have since had to replace all the internals since the last owner left nothing unstoned, filed, or cut on....it now has a semi-target hammer, a set of PC Magnas a T-grip and a trigger shoe.

That's it now in the top right, it's an absolute tack driver with 158 LRN and since the blue is already hurt, from what looks like poor storage in a damp basement by the last owner, I don't feel bad about holster carrying it and shooting it a lot. It's a "group" photo with some stainless Smiths, I'm just too lazy to get up right now and take another picture
