This 10-5 hopefully will be enroute to my dealer this week. Someone had it Parkerized. Dates to 72'-73'. Already have a t-grip on order for it. I'll get some real pics up after I get it.

Well I guess I'm just late to the game! I thought I had already joined the party, but no, so here goes!

1st Model of 1899 - Approximately 1901

Pre Model 10 4" nickel #S8735xx - Approximately 1947

Pre Model 10 4" round butt - #C1755xx - Gotta get this one lettered. I believe
its early 50's. Hoping for a birthday gun on this one. Its also my favorite!

These are by no means my first S&W's but I have to admit that nickel pre-model 10 is the one that started my current affliction with Smiths! And, fortunately, I'm permanently afflicted!

Looked at this thread again and thought I'd add another pic. Two model 10 no dashes from the same year.

You Sir, have a good eye!

It's funny how these things find you and not the other way around! I'd sure like to find an original box for it. THAT hasn't found me yet!

I have a 10-5 6" in S&W bright blue. Like new. It has gold inlay in the markings. Wish I knew how to post a picture. Would like to know why these guns are priced so much lower than a lot of the other models? This gun is really nice and I will try to post a pic.

I just bought a model 10 no dash, four screw (Yes, it is stamped "model 10," not a pre) on auctionarms. I'm waiting for the p/w to clear my FFL. I have never come across one before. It's a beauty. I'll post a photo after I pick it up.

I made my first post here in Dec 2010 with a Model 10-8 from 1982 and I have two more since then:

A Model 10-10 from, I think the 1990's

A 3 inch Model 10-5 from 1968

My first model 10 a 10-11 I believe, which I picked up cheap on a whim for garage duty. This is the one that got me itching two months back.

My second model 10 with Pachmayr Compac Pro grip, which has really got me hooked to S&W roundie rounders, a 10-10 which I think is last one before the firing pin. No other firearm I have found has fit my hand or pointed naturally like this K frame with compac pro grip. YOU HEAR ME AUTOMATICS!?!?!?

Now I've got a 681 comin. Next will be a 65/66/686+...Am I the only one gettin all itchy here?

Default Smith and Wesson Model 10-5 4 inch round butt

I need help dating my 10-5, 4 inch with a round butt and US marking on back strap. The serial number is D153xxx. I was told that most of these guns were square butt with 4 inch barrel. Any help will be appreciated.

Your revolver dates to '69-70 according to SCSW.

I can't wait to contribute.
I just layaway'd an "ugly" model 10-5 with a 4" barrel..
She's a little rough with some finishing issues but has a whole lot of character.
Pictures in a paycheck or so.

Stopped in at my LGS today just to say howdy and they had just taken this five inch 10-5 on consignment. Fella said it had been his dad's, didn't think it had ever been fired. And looks it, just a faint turn line. Original box and papers. Better yet they had just sold a piece I had on consignment, so I just rolled the cash over onto this one.
D373xxx s/n should put it late '67 or early '68.

My recent layaway.
A 10-5 with a lot of "character"
I'll be cerakote or duracoating the whole thing.
Thinking of a green or tan with a dark grey or gunmetal cylinder.

When I joined the Kern County Sheriff's Department (CA) in 1953 they issued me a 6" Model 10. I had never shot a handgun before. My first night on duty the desk sergeant paired me with an old veteran deputy. I don't recall where he was from, but he had a strong southern accent. We worked the 11 PM to 7 AM shift. So we drove off in our black 4 door 1952 Ford sedan, heading out of Bakersfield toward the honky-tonk bars on Edison Highway. We came to a stop sign, and he looked at me like I was chopped liver and said, "Boy, you ever shot a hand gun before?" "No, sir," I answered. We drove on for a few minutes then came to another stop sign. "Boy, no matter what happens tonight don't you touch that ****** thing." "No sir," I said, "I won't."

After we got off shift at 7 AM he took me out to the river and taught me how to shoot, all on his own time.

A year later I made the department pistol team with that old Model 10.
I left the department in 1956 due to an injury. I have no idea what happened to that gun, because when I joined the Imperial County Sheriff's Department as a detective in 1960 I didn't have it and bought a J-frame. I have a fantasy that some day I'll wander into a GS or a gun show and there it'll be, and that I'll recognize it. Sure. Another old man's dream...

The 10-11 at the top is one of the Aussie police trade-ins, which I've shot in two club PPC matches.

The one below is a 10-5, no idea when the barrel was changed out.

Do any of you happen to own a USN marked Model 10? When I was in the Army I was in an OV1 Mohawk unit which was activated in August of 1977. We received all new M16s and two types of .38s. One type was lightly used and just US Gov marked. Six of them were marked USN and looked to never have been issued. I don't imagine many are civilian owned since as far as I know by the late 70s or early 80s the DOD had quit surplus gun sales.

Well, I can't hold a candle to most you fellas acquisitions. But here's somethin' a little different.
A pre-M10 (M&P) dated to 1958 ship date.
Has a 3" tapered barrel. Photo does not show it, but it's definitely tapered. No special or government markings.

Great story there. Thanks.

For me coming from the Colts, I much prefer the guns with front and rear sights as I have seen some like the Official Police that dont shoot to point of aim too well.

How well do most of the 10s do vs point of aim? What do you think the best loads are, the 125-130s or the 158 lead bullets?

I am going to look at a 10 to go with my S&Ws. There are a couple of great looking nickel ones here too.

Thanks again.

Default My model 10 HB with target hammer and trigger

This was a duty weapon when we had to buy our own. Being near a beach I went for nickle plated to stop the salt water from rusting it...guess it worked.

Just in order to resuscitate this nice thread, my 10-5 I sold but should have kept. But I couldn't hit a barn with it even I were sitting in it.

And I had to make space for another gun on my licence.

Hey guys, I joined the forum mainly because I landed on this thread while researching a model 10 on Google that I recently acquired. My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary last week. Much to my surprise, she took me to the gun store. She handed the guy behind the counter a Franklin to close out the lay-away, and he handed me this jewel. My wife knows I like blued steel and long barrels, but she must have read my mind when she picked this thing out.

It is a 10-4, my research indicates that is a '61. Looking at this thread, I am not seeing any -4's. so I am curious, is this a rare find?

I don't imagine many are civilian owned since as far as I know by the late 70s or early 80s the DOD had quit surplus gun sales.
It wouldn't have been a Model 10, but probably a WWII Victory or pre-Victory model M&P from 1942-43. The Model 10 designation came about in 1957. I doubt that any of those would have been Navy-stamped.

Default How'd I miss this thead.....?

Oh well, always a day late.....
Here's some pics of what the M&P/M10 collection looked like before I downsized a couple years back.....

Special cabinet, graciously donated by Mike Priwer, not only an accomplished collector, but a fantastic wood worker as well......

A little closer, Top row - 2" models, Second from top - 3" models, Third and Fourth from top, 4" including Victories, Second from bottom, 5" models and bottom row has 6" models.

Here's a few actual gun pics, initial pics grouped by barrel length:

Two Inch:

Three Inch:

Five Inch:

Six Inch:

And additional misc pics:

Early Post-war "C" prefix round butt examples:

A Rare bird, M&P M1899 Commemorative, only 34 made:

2.5" Michigan State Police gun, very high on Cool factor :

A couple very clean Pre-War examples:

A nice 6" with humpback hammer, letters to the Little Rock Police, now owned by another member here:

One of two later model 4" RB guns I still own, a couple of the handful of M&P's that I'll never get rid of

A well used, but ever so scarce M10-3:

A couple Pre-War M&P's:

An exceptional 4" SV numbered gun with pre-war magnas:

Another nice SV, this one a 5":

I'll wrap this up with a couple Heritage guns, in Case Hardened finish, pretty:

The M&P/M10 is maybe not a Cadillac, but with enough of them you can certainly fill up a Caddy...

Enjoy

A Model 10-8 / 3" w/ a really superb action. Carried a bit by the original owner, but pretty nice shape overall.

Sorta' begs for a Tyler T, or a nice set of custom boot grips, don't you think?
