This 5-inch no-dash Model 10 came into my possession almost a year ago. There are some issues with the finish, the stocks aren't correct, and I probably paid too much for it (or perhaps I just bought it too soon), but it has quickly become one of my favorite handguns. This one carries serial number C 477768, and letters as having shipped to the Stratton-Warren Hardware Co. (a wholesale hardware dealer) in Jackson, MS, on December 29, 1959.

My latest 10. Really like this 1. Was carried, and not babied. Had not been fired much. I added the stocks, and B.K.'s. Fun little gun! Bob

That is a nice snub nose M10. I have decent luck with 4" but never find 2" or 3" K frames.

Won it on G.B. in March for $320. Stocks were ROUGH! I looked on + off for a 2" K frame for approx. 2 years. Really wanted a snub 15. It did not happen. Bob

Just loved the look of the older Model-10's so much I just had to find a nice one to own.Plus I watched that video from Hickok-45 and that helped a little to.Here's mine and it shoots great especially in single action target shooting.Very accurate!

Nice Model 10. I like your gun sack! I've been known to use those now and then.

Welcome to the FORUM! I did not know that Hickok 45 did Model 10 videos. Had to watch them! Enjoy your 10! Bob

Default Pair of 10-8s

Here's my two 10-8s. Both are ex-PD revolvers. The nickle one was used by the PD department of the arena I used to work for many years ago. A good friend bought it from the department when they went semi-auto and then gave it to me when he physically declined. I'm not fond of nickle, but it's had some trigger work and has the smoothest trigger of any of my S&W revolvers. So I keep it. It keeps me company while doing the daily outside chores in the winter. I'd rather have a revolver when it's 10 degrees than a semi.

The blue one is one of the ex Victoria Australian revolvers that Bud's sold a few years ago. Contrary to the ad, this one was definitely shot in addition to the holster wear. The recoil shield has wear marks from the cartridges and I had to replace the hammer nose shortly after I bought it. But, it's still wonderfully accurate and now is reliable. It's my "night stand" gun. The magnas on the Aussie were pretty beat up so I put the Pachs that came on the nickle 10-8 on the Aussie.

Those surplus Victoria revolvers were a good buy. My 3" is my absolute favorite of all my guns.

I do not plan any completion shooting. Do want to try it on steel plates at 50 yds. Bob
This 1 is gone now! Crossed the line, and traded it for a Ruger stainless Bisley. I sure like 45 revolvers! Bob

Default model 10

Found this one, took a lot of cleaning, and not much blue on it, but it lock up tight and shoots well.

Let's keep this on page one w/ a 10-6 that served with the police in Jordan in the '70s:

Best,
Charles

Your 10-6 caught my eye. I have a 10-8 made in 1981 with very similar markings and the WSS Quincy Ill etching on the barrel. Mine is marked ^^183 under the cylinder. I've always thought it came from Australia but now wonder if it too was returned from Jordan.

That is definitely one of the Jordanian guns. Mine has the same Quincy Ill. import marking.

IMG_3619.jpgHere's a Model 10-6 and a 10-10 that was purchased as "Police Trade-ins". They came in a lot of six, wearing rubber grips. A call to Patrick Grashorn for a pair of smooth, no bark, Elk Grips and a call to Dave Keith for a pair of "Brill Style" holsters turned things around. This is proof that you can take a 'sow's ear' and turn it into a silk purse.

Here's a four screw "no dash" I picked up not too long ago. It appears to have been fired very little if at all...(I know, since leaving the factory). No marks on the recoil shield, the ejector rod is still nicely blued.

What it does have is rust, pitting, and bare metal showing (hit with a cold blue pin for the pictures). It strikes me that maybe it rested in a nightstand, or sock drawer for a long time. I could be totally out to lunch, but it's a good story for me.

The diamond Magna's have been placed in a safe spot, and replaced with a set of Pachmayr Grippers.

Default 10-5 Round Butt - Had a Rough Life

I picked up this 2 inch Model 10, round butt, earlier this week at a LGS. It was dry and had plenty of red rust especially on the grip straps; chambers look pretty cruddy too but double and single action function felt fine. The dealer said that the seller had identified himself as a retired NYPD detective. I did my best to convince the dealer that he really didn't want to waste his time trying to make it presentable for resale and he should sell it to me, as is, at a "bargain" price. So, with some bargaining and adding an old H&R top break to the deal I went home with two old guns to clean-up.
Both of the Smith's grips were in rough shape but the right grip was serial numbered to the gun (SN C9035XX). The inside parts were coated with a "varnish" of 40 year old dried lubricant and the strain screw took several attempts to break it free; but the internals cleaned up fine as did the bore and chambers. Shot two boxes thru it still shoots good.
Oh, the Model 10 came with a Jay-Pee waistband holster.

Default Old New 10-6

Here's what I got in the mail yesterday an old but nice 10-5 Snubbie square butt. C58525x serial number mid 1962 if my guess is right. Nice inside and out with minimal wear. Nice pregnant ampersand and if u look at the last couple of pics you'll see a little rough trimming that missed the mark..looks like I've got a new favorite. Not bad for $400 bucks.

Here are my two. A Pre Model 10 and a heavy barrel Model 10-8, both shooter quality but I like them for it.

I've had this one a few years but for some reason have never posted it in this thread. It's a Model 10-5 carried by Lt Charles Neis of the Suffolk County P.D. back in the lates 60's.

Default Thread got me to look at my "Fearless Fife"...

Metal photo picture near my bench in the garage. Appears to be holding a 4-inch Model 10 in the picture. A must have for we Barney Fife fans!

Default Cannot Resist These 10s

Picked this one up yesterday. Interesting that it has a target hammer and smooth .400 trigger as well as a nicely done red insert in the front sight.
Have to wonder what game this one was set up for.
Has a few flaws, but I still think its pretty neat.
I added some nicer stocks and a grip adapter from my cache:

This is a classic thread. The M&P, later the Model 10 was Smith and Wessons "Bread and butter gun" for about a hundred years!!

Keep them coming...

Default My Model 10s

Model 10 2" 10-5 below left and model 10 4" 10-6 below right.
The 2" was issue for Boise PD plain cloths officers and Federal
NARC officers in the 1970s. The 4", with bull barrel, was issued
to Boise and many other PDs in the 1970s. Jim Cirillo, of the
famous NYPD Stakeout Squad used one like it very effectively.

2nd from left the 2" in a Lawrence 34V pigskin Special Agent
holster with "dog ear" to protect jacket lining from hammer spur.
3rd from left the 2" in Ken Null's RSS (Revolver Super Speed)
a Seventrees design, borrowed from Chic Gaylord.
4th from left the 4" in a Lawrence Field holster on a Lawrence
cartridge belt for tramping around in the boondocks. Shown
with my Buck knife.
5th from left the 4" in Heiser's carved #757 FBI holster on a
James Culver belt. Shown with my Bear knife.
