nasty little .44's
All.
I sent a PM and some pic's to a forum member. Thought I would share.
Nasty little .44's. Not enough grip makes the recoil more than needed.
What men should carry on their hip. These are very .44's nice to shoot.

Nasty?.... You Want NASTY?......
I got NASTY TWINS.....
629-5 Camfour 1999's. 2 of 300. Product Code 103839.
Note that the K-Round Magnas on these guns don't quite fit, but they are close. Gives you some idea of how small these stock frames really are.
Note that one of these is unfired. Shooting one was enough.

Drew.
The folks in engineering and marketing were having a bad week when that decision was made. Do they really think we would enjoy shooting something like that? If they are going to make guns for the novelty factor, make them with a square bore. It would then be obvious that they were not meant to be fired.

Bill, I agree.... and obviously so did the rest of the world. These guns layed in Camfour inventory unsold for 2 years.... so I bought two.
What really frosted my flakes at the time was that we had been begging S&W to make a fixed sighted 4" .44 Magnum Belt Gun (ala~ the 58) but the geniuses said that there wasn't any demand. Then they hand us these to prove a point I guess....

I love them. I have pretty strong hands (kindly place your hand in the vice, sir) and I like shooting them. I had a Jovino Effector that I foolishly sold a while back, and I'd love to have that one again.

i think i would like to see a snub in 41 mag rather than 44 mag to get the best of both worlds. i assume that is what you are saying about the model 58. wouldn't that be some gun wow makes me feel all good thinking i'd like to have one or twelve

How about the 696.
5 shot 44 special. "L" frame
Sorry about the rubbers,
I still havent found the right set of grips for it
Then we have a couple of "N: frames/
The unfluted is a 629~44 mag,
The other is a 624~44 special.
They are all fun,
But I will say that the 696 is a great shooter with just the right weight and kick.

Re. round butt .44 mag. snubbies.
Good grips and Mag-na-port would help, as would a little less powder in the case. I would like to own one.

I have always had a thing for 4" barrels in most any caliber, including my 44 mags.
Though not a S&W gun, I recall when John Jovino(NYC gun dealer/distributer) was selling the reworked Astra 44mags with IIRC a 2-3/4" barrel and grip frame configured to wear round butt K-frame Pachmayr's. And all for the whopping price of $199!!!
I used to deal with a shop way out in the country and trying a gun was no big deal, just step out the back door and let-r-rip across the hay field, we headed out with that monster loaded with 6 W/W 240 grain, full house rounds, about 9pm, on a moonless night, that thing literally threw "washtubs of flame"!
Needless to say I was sold! :-)
IIRC I paid $235 out the door, brand new.
Oh, the good ole days!!!

Nasty .44's indeed - pretty tho.
I had mine set-up pretty much as yours, with the original Combats on the 624 3" and stags w/ T Adapter on the 629-4 3".
I didn't care for the Combats on the 624 and the 629 was just to much of a handful to enjoy shooting with the stags.
Put the stags on the 624 & rubbers back on the 629.

I have a snubby 629, 624, and 657. I don't find the recoil all that bad, but I did put Pachmeyer RB Compac grips on the 44 Mag. The 657 came with Hogues (it is a magnaport custom), and the 624 still has the wood combat grips it came with. - dan

LOL, yeah I remember the 1980's 3" 629 with those stock Combat grips. Full power 240's HURT my hand. Pachy Presentations helped, but that monster was replaced with a 4" Special. Much better.
You guys have great .44's there; I just don't want to shoot them.

A quick snubby story. I was conducting a class for California State Park Rangers at their request many moon ago and a smallish female asked to shoot my then new 'Backpacker' (629 3inch round butt-a then short run from Smith). I loaded it for her and demanded only one thing....don't drop it! Well, she lit of the first round of factory 240 HP's and she threw herself backwards, the gun recoiling straight up in the air. I had only loaded one round in it, indexing it to come up after a few dry fire empty chambers.
To her credit, she did not drop it (a big thanks for that), but after the smoke cleared and her eyes lined up straight again, she handed it back to me with a big grin on her face masking the shock that was clearly visible.
A good time was had by all.....err, well, maybe most!

I'd love to try one of those. I have a Ruger 2.25" SP101 and have shot hundredreds of full-house Remington 125gr SJHP over the years.
I agree with Mas Ayoob's assessment of it when he first wrote about one years ago: exhilarating
My brother tends to just chuckle at me when I something "doesn't recoil much".

I wonder if we could take a M21, 44 special, and load it with super hot, 44 special +Ps.
Be a hand full, for sure

I bought one of the LH 3" 29's, product number 101224, from the 84-85 run when they came out.
My first range trip was at Ft. Sill's pistol range. I fired 6 rounds of 240g JHP's and decide that the wood combat grips would be replaced with Pachmay Presentations. The guy shooting next to me came over during a target change and asked what it was. I told him. He was shooting an OM Ruger Super Blackhawk and wanted to see what the difference would be. He fires a cylinder, puts it down and says "That is one nasty little cannon" all the while smiling.
A couple of years later, while on leave, I was visiting an LEO friend in Dallas and we spent the day shooting at his work range. I'd brought the 3" Model 29 and it was one of the first we fired that day. When the line went cold, folks came over to see what was making the noise. Long story short, everyone wanted to shoot the 3" and I was happy to oblige. With the exception of one very petite female DEA agent, they all questioned our mental stability. She wanted to know where to get one.
I remember reading a review when the 3" came out where the writer said tounge in cheek something along the lines of "it gives the illusion of concealability".
Gotta love them shorties.

Dogmann.
Surprised me to see an old post of mine.
I sold the guns, I have a dislike of small grip frames and large bore calibers in the same gun.
The pics were pulled from Photobucket and my not be on my hard drive. I will check. If they are still available I will send you a PM with pics attached.
