Collector's Value of a "no dash" Smith
Just curious -
I have several Smiths: -2's, -3's, a -4 and so on. But not any "no dashes" that I can recall. Is there a general rule that a "no dash" is aesthetically and monetarily more valuable than one with a dash?
Thanks
Steve

Not to me. Each is desirable and a member of a complete set of any model.

My guess it's like most other collectible things, the first edition always receives a premium. Like a rookie card.

Depends on the model. Price a 29 no dash in nickel vs the same setup in a 70s 29-2. Gobs of difference. Same with 25s, etc.

I think a pre - is even better!
As an example, a K38 made in 1950 has more value (if in same good condition) as a model 14-1 (1959), 14-2 (1961), 14-3 (1967) or 14-4 (1977) K38...because they are older and more difficult to find on the market...

the finish on the blue guns is usually far better as well as the rarity factor.

Also depends on quantities produced in each modification. Generally, model marked guns w/o dashes do not have as many units out there compared to certain dash models. That being said, there's certain Mxx-1's that are fairly rare. The M28-1 comes to mind of course....
