Thumbs up Help. Need Info On A S&W Model 10

Hello.

I need some help on getting information on a S&W Model 10. I have seen one for sale in a local gun shop I know very little about them? What year where they made? The one I am looking at has a serial number starting with D4650XX. It is chambered in .38SPL. What frame is it? What is one worth that is in good shape? Is this a desirable model? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The S&W Model 10 has been made since dinosaurs roamed the earth. They are possibly the greatest handguns ever produced.

They are "K" framed guns.

I'll let those with more intellect and more time inform you of the date of production, but I believe there are more Model 10s produced than any other handgun.

Like sharks, which existed long before the dinosaurs and are still around today, the Model 10 is such a perfect design it has not needed to change.

Model 10 is a "K" frame I'm guessing it was shipped in 1968.
Everyone should own a Model 10 of some sort.
Around here I see them at gun shows for $350.00 but they ain't moving very fast.

Made between '72 and '73, it is a K frame. Everyone needs at least one M10. How much are they asking?

A good but vanilla M10 can be found for $300 or less with some looking. Some sellers ask outrageous prices on these. Police returns still turn up with big dealers from time to time.

The 5" barrel is most common. The 2" guns bring a premium, and the less seen but way cool 5" models sell for a bit more than the 4" versions. The 6" guns are a bit more pedestrian but still fun to shoot.

I have a couple of Model 10s... one nice but mundane and the other one is all fancied up.

The one I am looking at is in excellent shape and they are asking $350 but I am sure I could get it for $325. I don't know if it has the original box or not but I doubt it. Thanks for the info.

Model 10, Well started roughly 1902,
They are a K frame.
I think we all have one here and they are the basic 6 shooter !
325 is fair for one that is still tight and had good bluing!
Can be VERY accurate!

The M10 [and Military and Police] is what I consider the "Chevrolet" of revolvers. A lot of them made, cheap [even today] and completely reliable. I have four, I want more.

i bought a 4" pre-10 for $350 and a 5" pre-10 for $325 in the last 9 months. so that sounds about right. i let a 4",10-5 in 90% or better for $180 at gander mtn. go not too long ago, still a little upset over that one.
