I bought a new revolver
I asked for advise on this forum earlier this week about buying a S&W 66-4.
I bought it .
Spent some time cleaning it up - it didn't need much.
After getting it home and removing the grips - I learned it is a round butt revolver.
I can't wait to go shoot it.

Very nice. I have a couple 66's and love them. When my budget improves I might be looking for a 19 of some sort. (Blued cousin of the 66.)

I Love your 66 .
I found a 4" 66 last weekend when my boy and I were out and about looking for N frame target stocks for my parkerized 28 .
They want $550.00 ish for their 66 . It's got some wear but what I like about it was the SS sight's . I may go back next pay day and get it .

Congrats on the 66
The round butt should not be a problem, just get some round to square conversion grips for it.
Lots of grip people make them.
Every gun I have gets new grips, it can be fun trying to decide on the wood, the style and all that good stuff.

I told you, you would like it. Just wait until you shot it. If it is anything like my 66-2, the trigger is slick as glass. I mostly shot .38's since its is cheaper to shot and is more friendly on the gun.
Congratulations and enjoy!

Yeah, it appears that the 3" models are harder to find.

I would be happy about the round butt - I don't own one, but the ones I've handled seem very ergonomic, more so than square butt revolvers. And there are a lot of excellent after market round butt grips to choose from.
The first Smith & Wesson I shot, decades ago, was a Model 66. It was state-of-the-art back then, and they have withheld the test of time.
Strangely enough, that's the one S&W model the wife and I do not own. We talk about it rather often, but always end up buying another model. There are simply not that many Model 66s out there - people have tendency to hold on to them - for good reason.

I have (had) a M66 no dash that I had round butted. It also got a smooth trigger and a broad target hammer for fast single action work. Then my wife's service gun (Ruger SS) needed work and I loaned her the 66, that was 29 years ago. She is a lead detective on a big city SVU team and on the SWAT unit. She has carried only 3 guns, the Ruger for a couple of years, then the 66 and a M36 that is on its 3rd generation of police work. She gets some flak at the range(but only once from the same guy), till she cleans the qual course with the 66 or 36, and that is competing against the large capacity 9s.
She says she might return it when she retires (I doubt it), but she lets me fondle it from time to time. I make do with my 64 and 65 for wheelguns.
The M66 is indeed a classic.
