Default Two new additions.

Yesterday I got a 17-4 8-3/8" 97K32XX out of a local gun shop. Today I got a 28-2 4" N158XXX at a gun show. Original boxes for both but the 28-2 also has the tools & papers. Total spent was $933.31. I think I did good. Shot both this afternoon and am very pleased.

Add to that a collection of parts including slide, barrel, hammer, grips..... Inside of slide is marked Model 411 but the seller had a sign reading SW 4003 Parts. Since I don't have this gun in my collection I will probably put the whole parts collection in the Seller's section tomorrow.

What a couple of days.

And a quick "Thanks" to Art Salmons for helping make up my mind on the 17-4.

With the trending prices and scarcity , I can see someone missing his old Model 17 enough to pay that much for near perfect one , if no one was looking . The extra price would be like a tax for being so stupid as to let it go . The model 28 could be considered a freebie .

Congratulations as you did really well and the early S&W P&R 22 revolvers are really hot right now and hard to find. My 8 3/8 inch 17-4 shoots like a laser beam and I'll bet yours does to.

I bought a 28-2 4 inch this weekend as well.

Default Not what I went in for.

I actually went to the gun shop intending to buy a 9mm 1911. But I think I have contracted S&W Revolver Fever. The shop had the 17-4 and a 28-3, both in 8-3/8". I guess I became infected when I shot the K-22 my ex-wife left behind. I was so darned impressed that I wanted another S&W .22. Now I am looking at guns I have been ignoring for the past 30 years. I emphatically do not need this new obsession. But stealing another person's signature: I don't suffer from this insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

You got an awesome deal!

Welcome to the club, But they are "Investments"....Right?
Do you know if your grips are original?

I think most target stocks were not serial numbered like Magnas.

I was also kinda under the impression that K22 Target stocks did not have full speedloader cut outs .

The ones on mine all have the football shaped cutout.

On a sidenote ,
Maybe it is my imagination but as crazy as gun sales were a few months ago it seems to be more of a buyers market now.
I noticed that although there were alot of shoppers I didnt see alot of money changing hands at the last 2 shows.

In a recession/ depression Cash is king and thats when the best deals can be made.

The guns sales had slowed significantly for a 6 month period at the end of last year and prices dropped on everything except 22 calibers revolvers which actually are really hot right now. The reason is the shortage and high prices of center fire ammo so people are turning to shooting 22's and realizing the fun they have doing it.

At the gun show I went to last weekend that place was packed and guns were selling more then recently and most dealers weren't buying guns but would work a trade deal with people. I've also noticed on the classified sections of the gun forums I belong to that sales are better then they were just 2 months ago.

I bought two revolvers at the show and they were both S&W 22's from the same dealer and he had sold quite a few guns that day and was happy.

Engine49Guy,
The stocks on the 17-4 are original to the gun. The stocks on the 28-2 seem correct but have a different s/n. The seller also had a set of target stocks for the 28-2 but my budget prevented me from getting them. He wanted another $90 for them, and from what I can tell that was reasonable. I have his phone number if I change my mind.
