Default Confused on DOB for my new 60

Took delivery of my model 60 today, its a 60 no dash. pinned barrel.
# R197xxx. Now SCSW says that serial range is from 78-79 but the book also says that 60-1 came out in 72 it has a flash chromed hammer and trigger, not case color.

I gotta believe in the 70's model 60s these were moving out the door so it makes me wonder why the discrepancy...

just get a Roy letter ? It did come with box and papers and accesories. seller also threw in diamond grips off an older gun cuz the orginals were miscolored and an aluminum tyler.

I don't believe there is a descrepancy, if I understand your question correctly. The 60-1 was a different gun (3" barrel or adjustable sights), not a change to the 60 no dash.

When S & W uses a dash number, sometimes it replaces the previous model and sometimes it is an additional model. The model 60 no dash was made both before and after the 60-1; your 60 was built after the -1 production ended.

No, unless your gun has a three inch barrel, or your gun has a 1 7/8 inch barrel with adjustable sights, yours will not be a 60-1. Below are pictures of 60-1 models, note how yours is different from those, hope this helps some...
