Barrel length and serial number prefix will make a big difference in what it's worth.
A 4" or even a 6.5" S prefix in that condition could bring well north of $1100-$1200. A blued N prefix with an 8 3/8" barrel between $800- $1000 right now.

I agree with Gun4fun's comments on 29-2 pricing. I think the 4" nickel examples are fairly sought after guns, and usually demand a premium... Check out this recent GB auction on a 6" nickel 29-2:

Smith and Wesson 29-2 6 in w/everything 44mag NICE : Revolvers at GunBroker.com

I think that one closed high, but the bidder thought the gun was worth it...

Based on the fact that it is an N prefix gun, but also that it is a 4" barreled gun, I'd say that somewhere right around $1000-$1100 should bring it home. Of course where you are located in the US makes a bit of a difference as well.

That's a nice package. Where it's NIB, with everything (including shipping carton), plus 4" nickel, I'd say he could get $1,100. With the right buyer, possibly more, without the right buyer it could take a while; that's the way it goes with collector-type guns...

I've got one just like it, but without the shipping carton, and I would not take less than $1,100; it's a beautiful gun, and you don't see many with the 4" barrel, in that condition. Good luck to your friend...

Its a very nice package, I like to own it

Pricing, around here things seem at the high end of prices. I would say if the local store had it they ask like $1450, probably sell it around $1250 or $1300. Since they never come around like that its just a guess.

As a reference a similar vintage used blue 6" no box or anything sold for just over $900 otd. Same place has a used nickel 8 3/8 asking $1200, has a case. Its been sitting a while, never looked close at it. Bought my 4" blue with case, tools and papers, missing the grips, for $750 (it was part of a package, and thats how I broke it out) I guess a year makes a difference.

Good luck to your friend with that purchase
