Default Grip numbers

I have a model 1953 22/32 kit gun. Both grips have the serial # "214XX" and "22 cal." written on the inside in pencil which is correct to the gun. It is very neatly done. However, there is also a stamped serial number on the right grip that does not match the gun but the grips fit extremely well.
Could the pencil writing have been done at the factory.

Thank you BidderRV

Welcome to the Forum
The right panel stamped number is the serial number to the gun that the grips were originally fitted to at the Factory.

IMO, the handwriting was not done at Factory but later in life by owner.

VM is correct. S&W never(?) marked both stocks, and used steel stamps after WWII, not pencil.
