Default Unusual 48-2

My gunsmith has an unusual model 48-2.

It is nickel with an 8 3/8 barrel. It has smooth target grips, a presentation case, easy 98% revolver.

There is a blue 22 LR cylinder in the case.

The gun dates to 1970, several years after the intro of the 48-3.

There is a factory refinish star on the cylinder. On the grip frame is "C" in a circle, an "E" in a triangle, and "R N" in a square.

Serial is 1K69XXX. Whats this worth retail? Regards 18DAI.

Anyone hazard a guess?

What do the symbols on the grip frame represent?

If it's in mint shape, maybe $500 to $600 considering the refinish and the extra cylinder.

22's are really hot right now so that will run the price up. The gun being refinished will lower the price. If the gun is in nice condition I say buy it for $450 to $500. It will make a good shooter. The letters and numbers on the side of the grip frame are used in production. Don

I believe that moosedog put it in the right window.

The gun has been nickeled, after the fact. That would take it down from being nickeled before it was originally shipped.

You didn't specify what kind of wood on the target stocks. That could have some bearing if they are factory rosewood, walnut, or goncalo alves.

Having the extra cylinder doesn't really step things up that much as it is blue, and the reason for having that gun is to shoot .22 mag. Your mileage may vary on that thought.

The presentation case kicks it up a little just the nicety of having one.

As a shooter you have the best of the best.
It will give you a lifetime of service and fun.

I also have a 48-2 that should be a 48-4 based on the serial number. This is not super uncommon for the model 48 for some reason.
