Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman
After reading a number of threads concerning these .357 magnum revolvers I decided to keep an eye out for an example. I found one today, 4 inch barrel, about 98% condition but there are a couple of small chips out of the base of those huge stocks. The finish was more of a low gloss matte and the cylinder showed no spin marks. The SN# is N225306 which seems to be around 1977 when compared to some of the serial numbers in the forums data. They were asking $349 for the revolver and I might go back for it on Monday.

Thats one hell of a price. I'd be at the front door when they open up Mon. I just landed a first year model with Packs on it for 400. abt a month ago. Wish it would have been a 4". Larry

That price is almost a give-away. Go buy that thing! Run, don't walk! If you decide not to get it, let somebody here get a shot at it. Supply the shops name if somebody asks. I'm outta work, so I can't afford it.

They are hard to find at that price. The mod 28 is a great gun, you won't regret buying one.

I turned down a premodel 28 at a gunshow on Sat, asking price was 475.00, it needed a hand, an oversze cylinder stop, had endshake, and had prize marks around the charge holes ( stuck cases?). A gunsmith special.

Coneten, Longtime lurker and a friend. This post finally inspired me to register, break protocol and have my first post a response. Yes, grab it. For me it is one of the most perfect blends of elegance and utility that there is. I have two, one of which I have had 30 years and the other I just bought.

Indiuckian, Very nice..thanks for sharing. I need to get my pics down to the click on smaller format. I will get back on photobucket and resize these too big photos! I think I know who you are..a S&W expert who also has a very nice Japanese collection, a black powder re-enactor and some Argentine connections!

They did that so the labels could be read on the shelf and when picked up, the 'bottom' of the box and contents wouldn't fall out.

You have a great gun there. This one rode with me for a while in a Patrol car, then 20 years in saddle bags, in my pickup on the ranch, and now is semi-retired.
You couldn't tell it wasn't new if it wasn't for some holster wear.
The original magna grips are sitting beside it in the safe.

this is another HP
with 4 inch barrel. Actually my posts are sort of crossed up..this was the pawnshop snag. This one has un-numbered target grips, red paint on front sight, white outlined rear sight and a target trigger.

That is a beauty Coneten! In my best Hannibal Lector voice, "Love the grips." Is this one an N or S serial number prefix? I know the other photo was S and those are pre-68 grips. I really like that 4 inch brother. We have a similiar pair!

This one is N prefix..N2253XX...I think around 1977? I removed the grips and they are not numbered. There is orange paint on the front sight This revolver is almost too big for my girlie man hands..must be the grips.
