I'm itching for a 44 mag!
Well I got the Dirty Harry collection video this weekend and now I have a craving for a 44 mag! Can just see me showing up at an IDPA match with one!! LOL! Well a 4" version since a 6" ain't allowed.
Man have the networks had to edit this movie for regular viewing.
Always wanted a model 25 in 4" so hopefully that will cure my craving.

I wish I still had my Model 25 4" .45 Colt . Nice to carry , nice to go through lots of rounds without making any finchy . Who me ? Never . I tell everyone , don't get rid of them , keep what you have , and save for the next . If You Let your family talk you out of some of your guns , when you get around to replace them you find they are scarce . When you do find them , you learn your old pinned and recessed are no more . I swear if I would have discovered the lock during a shopping trip to replace the unreplacable , I would have been very easy pickens at the next gun show . Easier than usual I mean .

I also bought the Dirty Harry collection, and it is amazing how 30 plus year old movies still make an impact on you. I was lucky enough to find a 8 3/8'' bbl 29-3 in near mint condition! Good luck with your hunt.

It's a long story on the badge, but I found it on Ebay. Do a search for Dirty Harry.

Sounds like it might be a story worth hearing. But is it one worth telling?

well the first picture of dirty harry he was holding a model 57 41 magnum, but becuase the craze was for the 44 mag all the other movies were with the 44 mag. I've owned a great many 44's and now two 41's I think he should have stayed with the 41.

Heresy
I realize this may be heresy on an S&W forum, but don't rule out an Anaconda. I had both a 629 and Anaconda and kept the "snake". It doesn't have the Dirty Harry connection though.

itch for a 44mag
I have a Dan Wesson 44mag with a 8" barrel, If you find one of these don't rule it out till you have a chance to shoot it. they are very smooth and accurate guns, with the option of interchangable barrel lengths

Of course we all know from reading the DH trivia, that Clint mainly used a .41 mag because the .44 mag was a bit too much with all the takes and practicing.

I may be out of sync
... but when I watch DH I can't help but get all icky by the sound the revolver makes when he has to toss it down on the pavement.

I like the Dan Wessons. I got to shoot an 8" .357 Super Mag last month and it was nice. Not much recoil either.
I know this may get me banned, but I haven't seen Dirty Harry yet. I know, I know, you don't even have to say it. It is one of the top movies on my "must see" list. Speaking of .44 Mags, a friend of mine took his 7-1/2" 629 Performance Center to the range on Sunday. He has an Aimpoint red dot mounted on it and he said it's probably the most accurate handgun he's ever fired. He said the barrel ports must really do their job because it doesn't have any recoil, and he even let his 12 year old daughter shoot it. She now loves that gun!

MODEL 29, THE BEST OF THE BEST
The model 29 has been my favorite revolver and handgun for that matter, since I can remember. The first one I purchased, this year in fact, is a 29-10, that is significant 'cause I am 29 yrs old!!!!, it was destiny!! Anyway, I have heard of nothing substantial that the lock has engaged during fire and I just ignore the thing. I have the 6 1/2 inch blued version that has factory engraving, I couldn't be more happy with any other gun. No, it doesn't have a pinned barrel or a recessed cylinder, but does have the wide trigger and hammer! Also the firing pin is internal rather than on the trigger! You all probably know all this, but I just wanted to be accurate. Another benefit of the 29-10 is that I have heard that 29-2 to -4's can't handle heavy loads for hunting after 20,000 rounds. Hickok45 on youtube has a 29-2 and never had any problems with his 29-2 until after over 75,000 rounds. He doesn't take it deer hunting either, but has shot heavy loads through it, so who knows? I just feel better with my 29 -10 because S&W say they have reinforced it for heavy loads, not to mention it is a tack driver, I love this revolver, and plan to get the 4 in model for IDPA as well, so have fun and know someone else is crazy enough to use it too; I also have heard of people winning with 'em!!!! Georgia Arms has good deals on 1000 rds and they are good for practice, unless you reload of course. Good luck at IDPA matches and have fun! By the way, I also carry the 48 oz 6 1/2 inch, we have open carry where I live, and I like the idea of large holes, and the intimidation of the potential threat seeing that monster on my shoulder or side!!!!

Gunbroker virtually always has 3 pages or so worth of old 29s for sale. Keep an eye on it and you might find a decent one to suit you.

Those stocks are faux ivory I bought at a gun show. The same gun is now wearing a set of the same thing but with medallions.

It's well documented that a Model 29 was used in the first Dirty Harry movie.
