Iranian S&W Model 10
I saw a very interesting Model 10 with a 2" barrel today. Excellent condition..it had the pre revolution lion crest of the Shah era on the right side of the frame. I have no idea of the rarity or value but am going to keep an eye on this one.

I have a book on international small arms that mentions these, I think. The Saudis have also used some S&W's, as have most Arab states that have good relations with the US.
T-Star
P.S. I found it: Small Arms Today by Ed. C. Ezell.
Prior to the fall of the Shah, about 7,000 Model 10's were sent to Iran, and some Model 15's were also acquired. Data on barrel length wasn't shown. It is known that the post-Shah regime has acquired many SIG P-220 and Beretta M-92 pistols. The SIG's were from a Portuguese source. S&W shipments not listed certainly may have also occurred.

I'll be sure to tell the gun shop that there were thousands and thousands of these Model 10's..common as dirt. Then I might have a chance!!

Hmmmm. Let me guess which shop.....
Coneten, I have one bit of advice, "Remember the Israeli revolver!!!" I would go in and say, "Man. That's a doggone shame someone stamped that revolver with that goofy Lion King logo." then walk away and feign interest in a Marlin Glenfield model 60, get out your loupe and say half out loud "This one has the squirrel AND the rabbit on the stock."
You will HAVE to create a diversion.

They have not priced it yet. It was brought in by a widow. Her husband was a naturalized US citizen originally from South Africa. It really looks like the crest was done at the factory not later.

I realize this post is a bit dated but this Persian marked S&W has showed up again in another shop as a trade in. I might be able to score it for around $500. Need some advise.

If you want to buy it to have something unusual, buy it. If you're buying it with the thought of rapid appreciation and making a bunch of money on it, forget it. The 2" Model 10's are solid guns and normally go for around $350-$400 around here.

My thoughts exactly, as a Model 10 collector I would be all over it as a "curio" for my collection, many S&W shooters out there wouldn't care either way about the Persian Lion stamp and wouldn't pay any more for it. It's the same thing with PD stamps on S&W's, some people collect guns that have them, some view them as used guns with an unsightly stamp.
I would rather have the 4" version with the Iranian stamp, but a 2" would be neat too.

Lucky you! I have been looking for one for years. when I was 9 years old, living in Iran, my friend's father was a police officer and had one. One day he unoaded it and let us kids handle it for a few minutes. Remember it was very hard for me to pull the trigger( did I say I was 9). Anybody knows one for sale?
