Whats up with that? I bought one new in the 70s, still unfired, and I dont think I would offer it for under $650s!

Hmm... A seven day auction that ended after 22hrs. If I was one of the other two bidders, I'd be a bit upset...

I would imagine the high bidder made an offer the seller accepted.

The high bidder happens to be a friend of mine and a member of the forum...he does get some crazy deals at times, at other times I think he's crazy

This has to qualify as the best legal deal I have ever seen in my short 3-5 year collecting/shooting life!

Default texas ranger did not go for 222!!!-READ BELOW

I made an offer with the seller before he listed it. then he listed it and we spoke and made a deal. so i had to bid enough to take over the bidding and he closed it down while i was high bidder at 222. it actually was sold to me for 750 and its unfired and has the knife.

Now I don't feel so bad, not that I was paying enough attention to have been a bidder anyway.

I guess I don't know the etiquette of the situation. Once the item is put up for an auction of a specified duration, doesn't that mean the seller should see it through to completion? If the seller wants a certain price and is willing to cut the auction short if / when he gets it, isn't that what "Buy it Now For $xxx" is for?

Haris1, I'm not knocking you or trying to start a fight, just trying to get some understanding of how auctions work. Like I said, I was oblivious to the whole thing, so it could have sold for three bucks and I would not have been the wiser.

Default texas ranger that did not sell for 222

well, since the seller and I had previous discussions about the pistol and he said he would take 750 for it. Then he lists the gun on gunbroker just before i accepted his 750 price. My e mail to him accepting the price was within hours of him listing it. we spoke the next day. So here it is with a week to see it thru or accept the amount now that he asked me for. Well, on gunbroker if you close an auction early you are obligated to the high bidder which was me since i put a bid on it so it could close with me being the high bidder which was the 222 Again, let me emphazsize we had previous negotiations on the gun before it was listed. What I dont think is ethical or fair to other bidders is once an item is listed and a buyer sees it, makes a private deal with the seller and he closes it down and thats not fair to the other bidders. I never do that as a seller and I never offer anything to a seller who puts an item up to induce him to sell it to me privately. Like I said, on this item we had previous discussions amd an understanding before the listing so I dont feel i scooped it out from under anyone since i accepted his offer before i even knew he listed it.

Sir, it certainly sounds like you did nothing unethical. Thank you for the clear explanation.

Well I do have one of those things. Bought it new in the early 70s, never fired it. If I didnt have other guns I would fire it. $750s is makeing me start to think if I want to put it up for sale.

I was bidding on a nice police positive when a second bidder called the seller and offered him a price "he couldn`t turn down". I had the first and high bid until that happened. Auction lasted 13 hours. Called the seller, he said the other bidder had bought a lot of guns from him, and he was giving him a break. Guess the 8 guns in the last 6 months I bought from him wasn`t enough.

There's another Texas Ranger commemorative 19-3 being offered on Gunsamerica now for $1,295. Same accessories as pictured above.

This is the type of situation I was talking about. The salient question: What does "auction" mean?

No, the knife came with the scabboard in a seperate blue and silver box, as did the gun. Then you put both in the fitted wood case.
Some were available without the knife.

Saw one for sale at a gun show about 6 months ago for, get this, $1600. I'm not sure he wanted to sell it. Also saw a Missouri Highway Patrol 50 year commemerative for $1200 about the same time. The knife really must be popular! :-)

We have two of the Bowies, sadly no Model 19 to go with them. Maybe someday I'll get lucky.
