Default Information Needed on S&W Mod 19-2

Okay, here's the usual story, I got a gun from my grandfather, and I was wondering, (it's total curiosity on my part) what it's history is, as well if it's worth anything.

It's obviously a S&W (Their logo, Springfield Massachusetts, and S&W are stamped all over it -handle and barrel-)

Behind the extractor rod, when I release the cylinder, it has "MOD. 19-2" written/engraved on it.

I'm really curious as to when this gun was most likely manufactured, and what it's value is. From wikipedia, it looks like it was made sometime between 1961 and 1966 so I *think* this is the correct forum to ask this, if not I apologize.

The condition of the gun: I would say it's in good condition, no scratches on the outside or rust. I keep it cleaned and lightly oil the surface. It still fires excellently in my opinion.

I'm most likely going to keep this gun, and pass it along to my future kids/grandkids someday.

Any information anyone on here has would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards.

We need the serial number to date your 19-2. You can X out the last couple digits if you like.

Welcome to the forum. Depending on condition I think it might be worth $450 to $550. Don

If it only has "MOD. 19-2" in the yoke cut and not a K765432 number there too, it sound like it should have a 2.5" barrel. Then, the serial number will be on the bottom of the butt.

Hi again everyone, thanks for the responses.

Here's the serial number from the bottom of the grip:

K6852##

(I followed diamonback68's advice, and X'ed out the last couple digits.)

Thanks again for all the help in ID'ing this revolver!

Great, your 19 was shipped in 1966. Hawkeye's guesstimate is about right on.
