Default Would you remove satin finish?

Ive have a 1976,Mod 66 with handling marks and slight holster wear on the barrel. I cant decide whether I should put the Mother Mag polish to it or leave as is. Im usually one to leave guns all original but for the life of me I know that it certainly would look a whole lot better. What would you do and does it depreciate its value by taking off the satin finish?

typically on my stainless guns i use the mothers...i will appy and hand buff about two coats depending on the level of shine you want...i just think they look a bit better rather then that almost grey look...

My 1976 66 NDD was out of my possesion for 1 yr. and got beat up somewhat. I had to take the Mothers to it. It might look something like this if you do it to yours.

I never did like satin finish on my guns. I bought a M625-8 and removed the dull finish before I even fired it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Go ahead and polish it up, you can always have it bead blasted later if you change your mind. Don

I always liked the satin because it does not pick up fingerprints like nickel guns or polished stainless

I vote to leave it as is. Since it is not correct, these kind of home grown finishes just stand out as an amateurish job and no serious S&W collector will touch such a gun as it would have zero percent of its original finish left. If that does not bother you, and you want a revolver that is not as nice as nickel, and not original, then have at it.

If your gun were a NIB complete with all docs. and correct mint box I wouldn't remove the satin finish. As it is I'd do whatever I wanted. You only have to please yourself.
