Default Reasonable Price for Mdl 66

I've been looking to buy a Mdl 66 for a while now and found one that's local to me belonging to a private party. It's either a 66 no dash or 66-1 as it is pinned and recessed. From the pictures I've seen it looks to be in excellent condition. However, it does not appear to come with the original grips(wears Pachmyers), box, or tools. Those items aren't essential for me though. I have a nice set of target grips that would be swapped in. I've been told the red insert in the front sight is loose. I don't know how much it would cost to be repaired, but it seems to be a minor issue. It has a 4" barrel.

The seller is asking $500 for it. Is that a reasonable price based on the condition? I was thinking around $450, but that may be low from what I've seen.

Thanks for your help.

The price is at the high end of the range for which these guns are selling at present. If the loose sight insert doesn't bother you too much and you already have the correct stocks, seems like an OK deal at $500, although you could try to knock the seller down to $450 because of the Pachmayrs.

A fairly common gun with a problem...........I know I wouldn't be willing pay $500, and unless I just had to have one right now, I'd think long and hard before I'd give $450 for the one you describe.

Hi,

I agree that the price is high. M66 are going in California for $425 to $475. I had two M66s and sold one for $475. The revolver was fired very little.

I would shop more.

Good luck,

I will be calling the seller to get some more information. I don't have to have it, but it is semi-local with a private party so I woudn't have to pay a transfer fee, tax, or shipping. I'll have to see if I can talk him down on the price.

You can get a good price if your patient. I bought a nice 66-4 4 inch that was fired very little for $300 even in California. I just paid $269 out the door for a M19-4 6 inch shooters grade. The revolver has minor surface rust but for $269 I will clean the revolver up and it will make a fine target revolver. I also bought a M36 17/8 inch from the same party for $138. It needs some cleanup but lockup and function is good. All three of these revolvers I bought are in California. A person has to watch most gun stores. They are trying to get way more than most guns are worth. And gunbroker is ridiculous. When auctions are trying to get $800 to $850 for a M28 shooters grade that is insane. I don't mind paying a fair price, but a lot people are just not using their heads.

Regards,
roaddog28
