Default Dirty Harry Collectors thread

Messing with my camera the other day and grabbed all the Dirty Harry stuff and snapped a few pictures. I got the badge, Lawman Leather holster. New 29-2 in the box just like in the movies, and even 3 speed loaders....
The other 29-2 that I plink with is in the holster...

You both need the badge/ID holder that I have seen on ebay from time to time.

I'll have to look for it!

It's the little things... I like the ID, another thing to hunt for.

As I was shopping for my own DH badge, the question is raised: Did the badge in the movie (or the "real" SF badge) have a blue or a black background? I have found them both on the web.

I really wish you folks would not do things like this.

I had convinced myself that I would only collect 19s, 27s and 57s.

Can you believe that Dirty Harry (Clint) turned 80 years old this week?

You don't need the badges etc. As a lifelong Californian (before I couldn't take it anymore and moved to Idaho five years ago) San Francisco only looks good through a bomb sight. (Except for some resturants, the opera house and a few military leftovers.) And Harry himself lives (or lived) in Carmel, which is quite a bit south.

I'd rather have some nasty STD than a badge that said S.F. on it. But to each his/her own.

I have five .44 mags, I like to think of them as dirty Fred's than Harry's.

Don't have the badge, but I do have this 6 1/2" 29-2 that S&W says was shipped in 1971 (same year as the first Dirty Harry movie), #N131xxx. It came with the custom engraved stocks shown. They started out as factory smooth targets:

I met Clint Eastwood in about 1965 at a celebrity golf tournament. Unlike most of the celebrities he was somewhat shy and was standing off in a corner by himself. He was very nice and friendly then and has probably been that way all his life. My wife and I used to watch "Rawhide" back in the late 50s and it was clear way back then that he was going to be a star.

Default 2003 Dirty Harry Commemorative (29-8)

Greetings everyone!

Attached are a few pictures of my S&W DH commemorative edition. S&W told me the model sold for about $700 in 2003. When shooting at the range with the countless semi autos in 9mm, 380, etc. it always gets a lot of attention! The report of the 44 Mag going off is just amazing!!!

Each time I shoot that gun, it continues to put a on my face!!!

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year!

I love the holster, but it looks like it might be hard to fit with all those possible adjustments.

Is this a replica gun? It does not look like a real 29.

Just put together a new poster for my garage... what do you think?

"Eh Eh... I know whatcha thinking... did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kinda lost count myself. Being this is a 44 magnum, the most powerful hand gun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you gotta ask yourself a question... Do I feel Lucky? Well do you punk?"

My dad was a movie buff and he had an 8x10 B&W glossy direct from the studio signed my Clint Eastwood. He worked at the Star Theater in Oceanside, CA when the film was released. Back then I wasn’t really thinking of the photos’ value. Dang if I know what came of it but I wish I had it now. This thread brings back memories in a way I can't describe.

Today, the theater is a historical landmark and was restored to its 1960’s appearance. I get an eerie feeling when I go there and see it. My dad was the manager there for 7-years and I can still see him tearing apart tickets at the door when the Clint Eastwood films and others' were king.

A bit later in life I saw Clint Eastwood at his Carmel restaurant ‘The Hogs Breath’ when he came in with his girlfriend. Man, if this all doesn’t make me want a DH kit then nothing will. Fact is, some memories bring back more pain than joy, but its all good.

Thanks for sharing. My Grandparents and one of my uncles and an aunt grew up in Oceanside. "Tex" was the President of the Elks club and active with the VFW from the 60's to about 5 years ago. He was a retired Marine veteran and though originally from Texas he fell in love with Oceanside while in the Corps. I will share this post with him.

Wow, a Travis Bickel gun! I regret passing on one of these at a great price a while back.

Oh well.

This brings up an interesting question. I rented and watched Dirty Harry again a week or so ago. At some point in the movie I saw the last name spelled out with a single "L" and thought to myself that I had assumed incorrectly for years it was with two "L"s. (I think it was the cast credits, but since it was a rental I can't go back and check.)
So, for all you collectors out there, which is it? "Calahan" or "Callahan"?

Don't own a Mod.29 so I don't need no stinkin' badges!

I do own a brace of repro Colt Walkers and an 1860 like he packed in The Outlaw Josey Wales!

Wow!

I think even Dirty Harry would be astounded by that line-up.

No holster yet, but here's a 6.5" 29-2 with movie accoutrements...

Where did you get those "posters"? they don't look like the original movie posters, maybe they are lobby cards? Not sure, but DO tell? How big are they?

Thanks

Very cool. Thanks for the link. I haven't seen this type of poster before, just the standard original movie poster. Thanks! I'd like to get a couple for the gun room, etc. they do look much nicer than the ones that are more like graphic art, rather than a photo background.

Smith & Wesson ( and those of us that love the 29) owe Clint Eastwood a debt of thanks. Elmer may have been the daddy of it but Clint made EVERYBODY want one.

Just think - one of the first choices to play Harry Callahan was Frank Sinatra. I liked Frank for a lot of reasons, but it would have been a mediocre and short-lived series if fate had not taken it to Clint. One story goes that Frank had injured his wrist and didn't think he wanted to hold the big gun and fire it one handed, even with movie blanks. Don't know if it's true, but it's hard to imagine anyone else but Eastwood in that role now. Clint made Harry an icon.
