Default Everyone needs a Model 10

But I foolishly traded away many a 10 over the years for other stuff.

Now I'm thinking every Smith revolver owner (or at least collector) needs at least two - one 4" standard barrel and a 2" snubby, just to form the basis of the collection.

All I have right now is a Victory Model. I shot it yesterday in an IDPA match. Drew a little interest from folks who had never seen one.

M&P shipped my birth year, 1948.

Same M&P with a 10-7. I thought I had a better picture of the -7

Model 10-10
Anyone know what the deal with the red and white lettering? I've never seen that on any others.

S&W 10-9 (left) and 10-6 (right, somehow has the gas ring on the cylinder like a 10-8, but with pinned barrel and stamped 10-6, with serial # in the 10-6 range):

Dunno about it, but I think it looks kinda snazzy. I've heard a grease pencil (maybe a crayon?) can be used to fill in the stamping to get that effect, though.

Does a post-war M&P count?

Some people use regular crayons, but they make this stuff to show off the lettering.

Here is my 10-5 S/N 3439XX. Don't know its ship date but reckon its 1970s vintage.

From back in the teens and twenties. Round butt dates to 1918 and square butt dates to 1926.

This one's been in before, but I haven't gotten around to getting some new photos. 1926 or so, 5" barrel. Adaptor is an old Pachmayr.

My latest find . A 1957 4 screw just before the Model 10 designation started. Gun is 99.9% looks unfired, with a slight turn ring on cylinder. Complete with numbered box, papers and cleaning rod and brush.

I showed this off some time ago and I still think it's a nice example of an "S" serial numbered M&P.

OK-here's two more. A '47 transition 6" and a '53 M&P, both .38s. Both possibly unfired.

Thumbs up

Here is fun snub 10-7 wearing some Herrets, and its' sidekick 640-1 wearing Fitz Duramites. Both are more fun than I deserve.

Some sweet looking K frames here folks. I love to see the old well used Model 10's and M&P's. I wish I still had my old NYPD M&P I got here on the Forum for dirt cheap! Just got a Model 10-7 and a Model 10-6 HB. Nice to have two old work horses again. Have to get some pics up of them soon.

Default Question

I see alot of good looking model 10's on this site. I know that alot have been made, but I have not seen alot of nickel 6 inchers. Are they a rare breed?

Thanks

W.V.Martin - cool, another Hooker.

I was with the 213th ASHC (BlackCats) out of Phu Loi, III Corps, 1969-1970.

Ironically, the main reason I wanted this specific Model 10 was this is the same S&W model I carried as an Army helicopter crewmember.

Welcome home to you also.

Bruce

Smile Crew carry weapon

When I first got to the Innkeepers I was issued a Colt 45, then after a few months they took those away from us and issued us these little Colt 38 snubby that was a tiny thing that was very light as well as worn to the point that you couldn't hit the floor with it. I got a Browning Hi-Power 9mm from a VC weapons cache that we hauled out of Ca Mau and carried that home with me. I had it untill it was stolen from me. I really loved that gun. Well it's good to here from another Hooker. Again, welcome home Bro.
W.V. Martin.

Here's short barreled post-war unit...1948

A little cleaner four-inch unit...1946

A five-inch gun with unique/hand carved (if not attractive) ivories...1947

A four-inch gun from 1950-1951

A six-inch gun with target sights...1914

A four-inch gun (U.S. Navy)...1943

Another four-inch gun, nickel...1926

A four-inch DSC gun with a "nice" war-time finish...1942

A nicer six-inch post-war M&P...1946

Here's one that I like a lot:

Just an old, pencil-barreld 4" RB, until you look a bit closer:
