19-3 Texas Ranger Commemorative Question
My favorite gun dealer (how can you go wrong with a name like Old West Gun Room) has an unfired Texas Ranger Commemorative with case and knife for $650. I'll probably get it and post pictures after the 10 day wait here in CA. Comments?

That would be a good deal without the knife. Everyone here would jump on it!

If you don't have it by now it's gone! I'd buy 10 at that price sell 5 in a couple of years and the profit would pay for the 5 I kept.

I guess I am a little confused at the response. It seems that everything I have read on this board about Commemorative guns is that they were not worth that much. Maybe I am mis-understanding. I have a Texas Ranger Commemorative with the knife that is in mint shape. Out of all of my revolvers (OK, I only have 6) it is the one that I would not sell.
Have I misunderstood the general consensus on Commemorative guns here?

Well even though I'm a newbie, I think the consensus here is that it is a definite buy. I know of a place that is selling a few (2 maybe?) NIB for $1500. Again I am a noob!

Does anyone know the serial number range of the Texas Ranger Comm guns? I think mine is TR686.

The Texas Rangers M-19's are pretty much an exception to the general values of other commemorative guns. I am not sure but believe the guns to be the first S&W commemorative guns that were developed by the factory, as opposed to commemorative guns requested by various groups marking some event or organization. Plus, the Texas Rangers have a much larger body of historically-interested people than, say, the Podunk Sheriffs Assn or the Bayonne NJ Fish & Game Board, broadening the guns' appeal substantially. The combination of features also made a really cool gun even cooler.
TR1 to TR10000, according to SCS&W III.

Yes, my understanding is also that it was the first one. And with that being the SN Range my 686 is relatively low. Nice info. And sorry to the OP for the hijack.

Some collector's edition guns are pretty lame, especially those that really don't commemorate anything noteworthy and have the dreaded lock to boot.
People really seem to like the Texas Rangers M19 and knife set, so there is a big demand for it, especially in unfired / unused condition.

I'll take pictures tomorrow to post, as I do the paperwork Tuesday after work. Very informative on the status of the Texas Ranger Commemorative, I always wondered why they went for more $. I sold a 19-4 to make room for the TRC. He didn't say it was engraved, but who knows?

I love the Texas Ranger Packages. Here are some photos of a couple of early TR's:
