4 29-1s
I put this on a year or so ago, but thought it time once again to show the 4 known barrel lengths; 4", 5", 6 1/2", and 8 3/8ths, of the elusive 29-1 all together. I know some of our members own this model so feel free to show them off.

Jackalope!!!
To be honest, I've never even seen the elusive 29-1; only heard about them and looked at all the gun shows in the Houston area for the past year....but not one around.
I figured they must be like the beloved Jackalope here in Texas or bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. You hear stories about them but never actually lay eyes on one.
Then....you've got 4 of them. Totally amazing! Thanks for showing.

That's because he was smart enough to be aquiring guns while the rest of us were drinkin' beer and chasin' wimen.
I was around when those were available, I just sort of assumed that they would always be. (Actually I didn't really think about it.) "Never know what you have 'til it's gone" or however the song goes. I hope that nobody will be looking for guns with locks on them in fifty years.
Very, very nice set. I hope you shoot them, at least now and then. They're guns, not weights to hold your safe down.

You posted in the wrong forum. Didn't you mean to post it in the "GUNS - For Sale or Trade" section?

Curtis, me too as there are only 3 of them known and one of those won't letter cleanly.

I had a stupid thought when I looked at the photo. "Gee, all from the same year."
DUH...
Seriously, that 5" 29-1 wasn't found growing on a tree. Quite a find.

Is it just the photo or is there something 'different' about the finish of the shorty version.

Pilgrim, same finish just more gun oil and high edge wear than the others. It's saving grace other than being a yoke stamped 29-1 is that so far, it's the only 4" 3 screw example found.

Here is my 29-1. To bad it is a 6 1/2 " gun. I guess I could take a hacksaw to it and make it a 5 incher. I got it in Tulsa in November of last year..The second picture is my 29-2 5 incher that I found about 3 years ago.

Beautiful array of 29-1's! I find the variations in the shape of the stocks (the upper edge, specifically) interesting given they were made during, roughly, the same time frame. Can these variations be due to different employees shaping the edges differently? I'm sure Roy could tell us.
Thanks for the 2nd look,
Jerry

Hey Jim
One thing about it if you wack the barrel on the -1, you'll get rid of the blue wear on the muzzle

What a quartet! The guns look fantastic and the Cokes look emmaculate. The grain in the long tube Cokes is amazing. I have never seen such a blond colored set as the five incher has on it. SWEET!

Sorry for the noob question, but what makes these guns so rare? is it just because not many were manufactured?
BTW gorgeous guns, never really paid much attention to them until just now

Chuck,
That is quite a set of 29's.
Do they all get shot a little or no ?
Can you give us a rough guess on total
production on all barrel lengths of the 29-1 run ?
The grips on the long barrel made my heart skip a beat.
Gorgeous.

Chuck, no, they don't get fired all that much actually. I have another shooter 29 that I have kept for just that purpose when I need to get the .44 Mag urge out of my system for the moment. Not too certain how many of this scarce variation were made in the different barrel lengths. My own very informal assessment would lean toward the most common being the 6 1/2", followed by the 8 3/8ths then the 5" then the 4" last. I base this on the guns that have been documented to date, around 31. This includes S228666 which has been on GB several months and no one appears to want it for unknown reasons. 6 1/2 (18), 8 3/8ths (8), 5" (2), 4" (3), (2) 4 screw nickel and (1) 3 screw blue. I put them in this order only because, so far, only (1) 4" 3 screw 29-1 has surfaced while (2) 3 screw 5" variations have turned up. Up until S220004 appeared here on the forum several years ago, it was believed that the 29-1 was only produced in the 3 screw variation, but S220004 and later S219982, both which are 4 screw nickel 4 in guns, gave those of us who collect this model hoping there are other 29-1s out there somewhere, but so far none have been found. The hunt continues. Those interested please see my commentary on the -1 variation.
Chuck
