Model 49 vintage grip pic request. Mine's wearing tires!!!

I picked up a flat latch model 49 at a gun show last week.I want to change the grips out for something more period correct than the uncle mikes on it. I found a pair of J frame diamonds for $40 but the screw was too short so I passed on them. I am heading to Little Biff's on Dixie Dighway tomorrow because he has every kind of grip in the world there. I was wanting some opinions with maybe some pics of model 49 flat latches with various early sixties grips styles. My gun is Serial # 356xxx which I am guessing about 1963 or 1964. If anyone could narrow that down I would be grateful.

That's her. She appears to be reblued if only with some cold blue. I paid $400 which is probably too much. I hope to get a set of vintage grips for under $40. Thanks for any opinion or pics

My new 3rd edition catalog says it is between 1962 and 1969, #295000 to #786544. So you're probably right about 1963 or so.
But I just want you to know that old gun is gorgeous. I'd sure like to own it myself.
You did good getting it and kudos to you for putting original era grips on it!

That's a good looking Bodyguard. Not abused, but with a nice aged patina. Keep the rubber for when you go to the range, and don't worry about what you paid. The heart want's what it want's. If this revolver were mine, I'd get some elk stag grips from Patrick Grashorn.

I agree about the way stags look on a nice old blue piece, but Ajax faux ivory can also look snappy, see my m.36 nickel with Ajax and bronze tee pic. The other pics are of a m.49 I used to own, with Patrick Grashorn ("Executioner" on this Forum) stags and a tyler tee. But for range shooting, the tires you have on it will do best.
Compare them with the original grips, the pics with the red background, and decide for yourself.
btw, the Tyler tee will make this feel much better in your hand, if your hand is of any much size....
2nd btw, you did not overpay, IMHO....

I thought about staglon or even real stag but I was trying to put no more money into the gun. I went to Biff's and swapped 1911 grips for these retro looking things. No name brand and I had to fit them to one of the pins. I was trying to go vintage inexpensive and he wouldn't dig out the "Cigar box-o-Franzite" that I got to paw through once before.(If anyone has been there they will understand how a Box-o-Franzites might be hard to locate).
I had to settle for picking through what was visible. These seem to be an acrylic and I liked the yellowish tint. This is my only set of pearl-look grips and I thought the yellow cast looked kind of neat. They seem to be of the same era.

Thanks for the pics guys. If I would have waited until Monday to go to Biff's I may have ended up going ahead and spending the $'s for the stag!!!

Buddy, that's just about the best looking set of vintage grips I've seen in a long time. Aged ivory, pearl and plastic all at one time. Great job, and perfect for the look of the revolver.

Here's my early 60's M38 with original stocks and a Tyler T-Grip. IMO it don't get any better than this for looks and function.

Thanks for all of the pics.

The common theme I am seeing is that these weapons are carried!!!! All of your pics come across as pics of companions rather than steel,stag, and walnut safe queens. It seems the same with model 28's.

I know this is old, so it's too late to tell you you can buy screws online for cheap and hope for the best lol. Being 9 years ago, I wonder, do you still have it? How did the grip situation work out and tell you I'm glad to hear you were ditching the rubbers for the wood. Makes me glad to hear it.
