Looking at a Model 64 (stainless 38 spl) with the early tapered barrel. What some people refer to as the "pencil barrel".

Was this revolver designed to fire +p ammunition?

It can certainly handle +Ps with ease. Shoot as many as you can afford.

I know the early 64 had a slightly lighter frame in the crane area than the later heavy barrel version so I wasn't sure about the ammo.

If I decide to buy, I'll post pictures.

Any K-frame with a model designation is fine with +P.
