Default Model 14-4, 6" 38 special. Value or price?

I got a quick look at a M 14 yesterday. I believe it has a pinned barrel. What's a good price and or value for one of these. I know it's hard without seeing it but with just a quick glance I'd say at least 95+%,
Hey, it even still had it's wood grips/stocks

Thanks

It's hard to say right now because prices vary so much and condition is such a key factor in price and one man's 95% is something different then the next guys 95%. The Model 14 is a great revolver with a wonderful past as a accurate gun used and was often used in competition and in my opinion they are not atttracting the following they deserve. I have a 14-4 with 8 3/8 barrel that I bought last year for $495 and it is mint with the box. I also bought a K38 5 screw pre 14 with 6 inch barrel and diamond targets grips in 98% condition with no box for $500.

Prices have softened some since then so I think the gun you are looking at is a $375 to $425 revolver. Others can maybe give you a better read then that.

Around here I believe you'd be looking at $400 to $500.

I of course have to take a closer look at it. It just came in to the shop yesterday. It's just the gun and no box or papers.
I'll see if i can inspect it closer today. thanks.

I picked up a 14-2, 6", matching stocks in the 98-99% range for $375 about six months ago. So in the NE FL area, I might go as high as $450 w/o a box.

I went and looked at again. It is a dash-3. It is perfect with the exception of a few "Freckles" (rust) in the bluing right above the grips. They maybe can be removed with super fine steel wool. I will need to check under the grips. Other than that it really does not look like it has been fired more than a very few times.

I paid $350 for my 14-3 a few years ago. The blue is gone from part of the frame. Some chemical reaction took it off at some point. No rust. No pitting. Great lock up and great trigger pull. Great shooter. I have seen a model 14 (might have been a -3) going for $700 a couple of months ago at a local pawn shop. It was perfect. I thought the price was a little high.

When I bought my Model 14-4 about 5-6 years ago I was looking for a good shooter and planned on it being used. At that time shooter grade guns were selling from 250-300. I paid a $50 premium for my new no box specimen and was rationalizing the the $350 purchase as paying extra so that every nick, ding and scratch on it would be mine and it would not just be someone else's old gun.

I see what the sell for now and I am literally shocked $400-500 for a shooter grade gun around these parts... Finally I made a half decent investment.

Eight years ago I paid $300 for an ANIB specimen. Blue box was not numbered to gun though. Gun ended up being among my favorite and most accurate revolvers. Used for for home defense even for a spell.

My example seems to like 130gr fmj ammo especially the Federal American Eagle over the 158gr target loads.
