My Model 18-3 made in 1971 has them. I have not lettered it so don't know if they are original. They do seem a bit out of place on that particular model.

That's always a good question, and on an individual piece pretty hard to ever really know.
First and foremost S&W is (was) a factory, they made guns which were working tools. I don't believe they ever imagined their everyday standard products would be analyzed, categorized, and fussed over the way we do today.
I think it was common well, more common than we think, that an order had to get out so they simply fit whatever they had to finish the piece, complete the order and ship it.

I have two model 18's that came with the target hammer and target trigger. I remember seeing them in the 70's and early 80's as full target 22's fairly often. Now you just don't see that many. Did pick up one a while back in a pawn shop. It had the standard trigger and hammer. They are probably my favorite of all the 22's I own because they are so similar to the model 19 which I hold in very high esteem.

Couldent really say but I think they are fairly common. I've seen a fair number of K frames with em.

How common, I don't know but without a letter it's impossible to know if it's original to a revolver.
I have two from 1953 and one has a target hammer, the other doesn't...
... I'm pretty sure it was added latter. Easy swap.

I put a ranger trigger and target hammer in mine. Also added RR/WO. Mine's nickel.
Congratulations Robert. A nice gun.
