Default I'm getting in deeper and deeper.

First it was a Model 17, then a 19, then last night I stopped at my local shop and found a near mint Model 10-5. I say near because I don't know enough to spot 100%, but it honestly looks like it just came out of the box. It's a standard Model 10, 4" (pinned) pencil barrel, square butt, fixed sights. No scratches, no wear. S/N D255XXX.

My wife twisted my arm to put it on layaway, so sorry, no pictures yet.

This could be habit forming.

Congratulations on the purchase but the sickness only gets worse. It was made in early 1972.

If you think you're gonna get any pity here, you are gonna be disappointed.

Welcome to the addiction.

Exclamation

Did you say your wife made you put it on layaway?

Something very strange going on here.

Do you live in a Vortex area, is the water different?

Only foolin, but cast aside all hope if your better half is on board!

Make no mistake-it's worse than any addiction on the planet. Temptation is hard to resist and sooner or later we all succumb to this madness.

BTW-Does yo wife have a sister like her?

Smith and Wesson fever is contagious and you can get it on the internet. You do not have to make personal contact, but just to be safe you might decontaminate your keyboard. You might try some Lysol spray.

Wait until you get 20 and then 40 and then a Colt sickness in addition to your Smith & Wesson sickness.

I'm going to guess that it is from 1970. I have a factory letter on my old favorite Model 10 which is D 3623XX. It shipped from the factory in June of 1971.

Welcome to our world. You are kind of doomed now. But it is o.k.
You can shoot your guns, collect them ,and trade them with your friends!
Think of all the fun you'll have for years to come.

If you think K frameiction is rough now ,particularly in its early stages
just be on the lookout for N frameitis.
Smith made far fewer N's and they are double or more the cost
of their little brothers.

Good luck to you sir, and God bless your wife.

Regards.
AlleN-Frame

The result of N-frameitis.

Thanks Ray. Someone else had told me '69-70 also.

I've got a touch of the Colt fever already. A little worse than the S&W thing. Nothing really nice, but a 1912 Pocket Positive in 32, an Official Police in 38 (1950), a Frontier Scout in 22 (1967), and a 1991A1 Commander (unknown) in 45 acp are a start. I try to not even look at Pythons.

After looking at AlleNframe's post I realize there's really nothing wrong with me at all.

I have just about depleted my non-1911 semi autos I have had for years raising capital to buy more Smith wheel guns however. Only one more left to sell.

I believe it is actually an addiction, the more you get the more you want. There is only one cure and that is to go cold turkey and get rid of that which is desired. Most of us here choose to simply live with the addiction. It is mostly harmless, except for the wallet.

And thanks, Allen-frame for ratcheting that bar up a little bit higher. Now I gotta get me a plaid blanket for my next photo shoot. -S2

About April of this year I had 1 model 626-4. I've owned it for a few years. It was a back up on Elk and deer hunts. It never inspired me to buy more handguns. When I was younger I had 2 model 29-2's and one 22 Masterpiece. I wanted to replace them. All I had to do was find and buy-trade, just get me 2 guns and I'm out of here. I found finding was pretty hard, it took a while to find the 22 Masterpiece, finding the right 29-2 has proven to be more difficult. I have bought 6 S&W's since the first 22 Masterpiece. Another 22 Masterpiece, 2 model 27's (one is a 3.5 -2 lust-love at first sight), 2 model 19's. a model 25-5 and I've been close to getting one 29-2 and a third 22 Masterpiece in the original box. This week end I passed on a 36 and was a week too late for a pre 29 44 Mag 6" for $1000.00. It is not an addiction, it is more like a fever, take 2 S&W's I mean 2 aspirin and see me in the AM....... This addicton or the hunt while chasing grail guns does sharpen up the senses.

As I've commented before, as part of the 12-step program I bought a Model 12. You're on your way.

Basically you're already an addict. Accept it and learn to love it. I gave up fighting it years ago.
