It's about 24 years newer and made of different steel than your other 44 mags!
Nice early 629.

Bill that's beautiful revolver and a pinned and recessed one to boot and you probably have the set. I have the full set of them aquiring the 4 inch about 4 or 5 months ago.
My 6 inch was made in 1980 and the 4 inch and 8 3/8 were made in 1981.
4 inch
6 inch
8 3/8 inch

WOW! Gorgeous pics guys! I have the twin to Docs 629 except mine is N779xxx so they were made roughly the same time. Happy Bday to some of the nicest 44's Smith has ever produced.

pity no one had one of those on the flights that took off 9 years ago...it would have made for a fine 21st birthday celebration for Doc's...

Very nice as usual Doc.
I have one just like it, case, tools and all, but my original stocks aren't as nice as yours.

I'm fortunate enough to have the full set of NIB 629 no-dash guns too. No matter how much I try I can't make my pictures look even close to the clarity, sharpness and beauty of Doc44's.
I've gotta say the guns don't even look as real in person as Doc's do in pictures... Absolutely stunning, Doc !!

I "saw the light" early and bought my 629 no-dash guns new as they were introduced. I'm lucky to be able to claim I'm the original owner of all three. Here is a recent picture of my 4".
Start collecting early, guys... Time passes so quickly.

629 no dash
Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I have a 629 no dash, pined and recessed with the 8-3/8 barrel, s/n 837xxx, I have read conflicting information in different books as to on how many were manufactured and what years they were produced.Does anyone have this information? No box or papers, what type of box did this gun come with. Wood, blue one piece or two piece?
Thanks for your time and answers. sorry to hijack into this thread.
Thanks,
Bill

The 8-3/8" barrel was introduced in '81, the "-1" model was brought out in '82.
The best book you can get is "The Standard Catalog Of Smith and Wesson" by Jim Supica & Richard Nahas.
Welcome and enjoy!
