Default Smith Wesson Model 10 2" Nickel

I have an opportunity to purchase a Nickel 2" model 10 but am struggling on an offer price. The gun appears to be 98% condition in the 2 piece gray box. The box has the correct serial number along with all the paperwork and cleaning kit.

If I read the serial # correctly [4D478XX] it shows 1968. Would that be a correct assumption?

It belongs to a friend so I want to make sure I give him a fair price but he won't set the price.

I have attached photos but after looking at them, they really don't do just to the gun. Any help would be appreciated.

No doubt somebody is going to tell you they bought one last week for $350 or less and this is worth $400 at most.

Maybe in some places, but I know they go a tad bit more than that in this part or the world if you can find one. I know I wouldn't sell mine for that.

YMMV

Well, I wouldn't hesitate on this one. Really looks nice. I have a 10-5 four inch and really love it. Accurate little guns they are. Having the box is a nice touch. You could check on GunsAmerica for pricing or GunDirectory also.

It's not often you find a M10 that old with the box and tools in the condition you describe. I would say a fair price would be between $400 and $450. IMO Don

Don and I are always close on prices. He's right where I am on this one.

Offer 450 and ask if there's a holster or ammo with the deal. If there is your good, if not your still not in for more than retail.

if it was my friend, I'd give him $375...primarily because I already have a 1963 blued Model 10-5 and I don't really need another...but also, if he's not a gun guy with lots of gun friends to spread the word it's for sale, I'm sure he doesn't want to waste his time (and jeopardize his safety & that of the public) trying to peddle it to strangers and whatnot...

when I have had a chance to relieve a non-gun guy or gal friend of a firearm they no longer want, I offer a price we can both live with...more than the vulture peddlers would offer but slightly less than top dollar (you're providing a service here yourself)...this saves them time & hassle and also ensures the firearm doesn't end up in the wrong hands...

that's my 2 cents..

(I don't disagree w/ the advice already given above by other forum members)
