Default model 66 number question

Hello, I just bought a model 66 no dash 4 inch barrel. After pulling the hogue grips I noticed " Solano Co. # 35853 " engraved with electric pencil on the right side of the backstrap. I know where Solano County California is located. Could this be a Sheriff's weapon, badge number or evidance number? I've never seen this before and wondered if any members might have an idea.

Thank You
redhawk

Probably some kind of inventory number they used, may or may not be a badge number, but it may be a little to long of a number to be a badge number, could be an evidence number though.

Be thankful someone had smarts enough to put under the grips

seems kinda long for a badge number, and unusual to have a property tag( evidence number) UNDER the grips..... an 'I.D. tag of some sort I'd guess..........give 'em a call and ask..........

Just talked to a good friend who retired from Solano County S.O. He told me they had to buy their duty weapons up unitl the county switched to semi-auto's. The number is also not a badge number. For years Solano S.O. did not even use badge numbers.
