17-4
Hello, I just bought a 17-4 with a 6" barrel that appears to be fired very little if at all. One item that stands out is the barrel is a different color then the frame. It almost looks black where as the frame is bluish as one might expect. The gun is in great shape and I can't see where a new barrel might have been fitted at some point. Has anyone seen a revolver like this?

Welcome to the forum.
This happens occasionally. I've been told that years back, all parts of a specific gun were blued together.
In more recent times, I think they blue the frames and barrels separately and they don't always come out exactly the same.
I have seen several. Most people don't seem to object to the variation in color after shooting their 17's.
Shoot it and enjoy it.

Welcome to the forum.
As Iggy says, we do see them like that. Nothing to worry about. M17s are great shooters. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies. Here are a few pics to show what I'm talking about. My 29-6 is a little mismatched as well, but not as pronounced as this one is.

Somebody could've swapped barrels, too.

For a collector I would worry about it being original. As a shooter who cares. Wish I had a 6" mod-17 to go with my mod-18. Nice gun!
