Default My M36 birthday present

I bought this a few days ago as a birthday present to myself. Today is the day so i am officially gifting it to myself. So i am posting up a few pictures. I am actually going to use the pictures the seller posted because they are so nice. He was GREAT to deal with which makes it that much better. The pictures do a good job of showing the flaws in it. It has non matching serial numbered grips and there is some damage on the bottom of one. Also there is a few scratches on the side plate near the hammer. But all that aside i love it. Beautiful glossy blue, great case hardening color and just a nice quality feel. I was not really planning on purchasing this so i had to offer the buyer less than he was asking. He came down some and included this nice hostler. the holster is great because i really want to try OWB with a J frame. Ended up giving $300 for the package in a VERY easy FTF sale. The seller was great to work with. What do you think?
PS i am considering a nice set of Spegel boot grips, any thoughts?

I see the little scratch on the sideplate & the grip damage you mentioned, otherwise it looks great. I love Chief Specials, I currently own three & am always on the lookout for another. For $300, you really scored!! I would have been willing to pay at least $350 for that gun (not incl the holster) and maybe more. Spegel grips are supposed to be the cat's meow but they're kinda spendy & hard (long time) to get. There's other wood boot grips out there which are less money & quicker to get to boot (get it?): Altamont, Ahrend, Badger, etc. I actually prefer the good old Uncle Mike hard rubber boot grips-- they're out of production but still readily available used on ebay etc. I believe S&W still has some available on their factory website store, priced at about $22 delivered.
If you post the serial number off the butt (with the last two numbers x'd out), we can put a ship date to your fine new revolver.

I recognize the j-frame, fellow Georgia boy! I was going to move on it on the ODT but got distracted with a couple of other j-frames for sale that day that I picked up. You got a fine deal! I was a bit disappointed when I missed out, but seeing how much you appreciate it eases the sting! Looks like we both aquired some nice 36's last week.

Per the SCSW, 3984xx falls between 1962 & 1969. The flat latch places it before 1966. So 1962-1965.
