Mirror Blue - show me your Guns
Other than the bluing on my pre-war guns, the finish on this 19-3 Texas Ranger is as nice as I have seen (the stocks are kind of easy on the eyes as well).
Show me your favorite blued guns with the nicest finish...

I really shouldn't post any pics because my photographic skills really suck, but I've got a few that are O.K. The guns actually look much better in reality.
4-screw pre-27
27-2
Several of my -2 guns also exhibit seriously nice finishes. I just don't have any pics worth posting. I agree that none rival the finish of the pre-war guns.

I'm almost ashamed to post my pictures, they're so bad. Nice guns, but crummy pictures.
A 10-5 (rear) and a 10-7.

This picture is a tad bit redundant as it's posted on another thread right now. These are all hand picked favorites from my collection and I'm the original owner of them all.
Later S&W blued handguns occasionally reached the very deep and bright rich blues of the early S&W's and Colts. It's very difficult to capture accurate digital photos because most digital cameras tend to give an additional bluish cast to the gun as well as the background, flattening out the true appearance.

HOW do you guys take such great pictures??? I have a high end digital camera but can't take anything even near the quality of some of these pics.
Don't mean to highjack this thread, but please share your secrets!

I do have to admit that Dan's Model 3 has one of the nicest finishes that I have seen in person on any revolver of any make (even though some of those C#$t's have a blued finish that looks like a lake at sunset - e.g. DriHeat's long tube Python beauty).
One more Pre-war blued mirror:

Richard,
You could shave with the knife and use the 19-3 for the mirror! Beautiful pair.

Here is a Pre-29 5 screw. It was shipped in 1956 with a 6.5" barrel and then returned to the factory between 1958-60 and had this 8 3/8" barrel put on and shipped back in the newer style presentation case with the silk lining.
The picture doesn't do it justice on the finish. It can be used as a mirror if needed.

The finish on this gun is so good you would think it is a reblue, but it is original.

No. In general, the only cylinders that were recessed were the Magnum calibers (.357 Mag, .44 Mag, and .41 Mag) and .22's (including the .22 LR, .22 MRF, and .22 Jet).
