Model 27-2 price check
I ran into a 27-2 w/ the 5" bbl, original box & paper (didn't see any tools) that appears to be unfired, but the $799.00 price tag seemed a bit too high. Am I correct or is that the range they are going for these days?

a few well known retailers around here would probably have it listed at 11-1200. I wouldn't pay that. but I would not have a problem paying around 7-800 for a nice model 27 if I had the money. if you don't like the price it never hurts to offer less and see what happens.

Well let's just say if I ran across that one at that price it would be in my safe right now!

+1..... And the price for nice 5" 27's is going to be up, up, up..... They are one of the finest N frames ever built by S&W and they aren't makin' 'um like that anymore....

That is a very good price for that fine and highly desirable 27! I don't own that barrel length (mines a 3.5") but the 5" I shot was a tack driver and very well balanced.
It'll hold its value and probably go up in price. You could probably flop it for 1k easily. Would not recommend that though as you would regret it speaking from experience.

Well, the replies make me think that this will deserve a second, more serious look.

From what I have seen, the price is a go if it something you want.

Sorry for reviving an old thread...but I didn't want to just add to the clutter of similar threads if I don't have to.
So, I'm looking at a good condition blued 3.5" Model 27-2 with all the T's sans box/papers for $950 OTD. That's a big chunk of change for me to drop on a gun, but it'd be one I'd be keeping for as long as I'm alive. I know they're getting scarcer every day and the 3.5" is pretty sought after. Is that price too high to even consider or does anyone here think it might be a "fair" price? Also, I'm not interested at all in the target trigger...would it be a hassle to swap it out for a "standard" trigger?
Thanks, guys

i would not sell you my 3.5 inch 27 for $950.00. You can have the triggers changed but keep the original if you ever want to sell it, so you can return it to original condition.

Thank you for the insight, sir. I may just have to jump on it.
Does a trigger swap require any fitting, or are the generally drop-in parts?

In my opinion, $950 for a 31/2" in "good" condition (80-90%?) is too high. It is all about condition! If it was a 98%, then the price is about right.

I'm not too great with the (subjective) % scale. If I had to though, I'd probably 'rate' it at 95%. The only bluing loss is on a couple sharp edges and the gun is 100% mechanically sound as far as the usual cursory checkout led me to believe. There's a slight turn ring and the grips aren't pristine, but still good. I wish I had photos.
I'll probably be picking it up within the next week or so...still debating it a little though. I'm sure if I don't buy it, someone else will and then it'll be forever and a day before I found another 3.5" M27 under $1k :/

Very, very rarely, if ever, did a gun leave the S&W factory without being test fired. How many shell head shadows are there on the recoil plate?

My Nickel 27-2 with 5 inch barrel had every other cylinder fired which I'm told is the factory test firing

Percentages are hard to be right-on from one person to the other. Consider this, seeing how you are after the 3 1/2" M27. Take the grips off and see if they are numbered to the gun. If they are, buy it and don't look back! If they are not, offer $900 and play it out.
