Default Why so few 65's

I picked up my S&W 65-5 Ladysmith for a very reasonable price.
Since I've had it for awhile, it has really grown on me and I've decided now that it's a keeper.
My significant other really loves this little gun and it's a ideal little revolver to carry for outdoor activities
or just everyday carry.

Far from unloved, a 3" Model 65 is one of the best shooting revolvers I own. Current prices suggest that the 65 and it's blued counterpart the Model 13 are desireable guns, especially in the 3" configuration. I believe folks that have them are holding on to 'em...

I bought a lot of (7)SW boxes a few months back off of xbay. It was the only "blind buy" I have ever made in that i didnt know what the end labels were. But I just some boxes to put some of my older boxless J and K frames in. When I received them, all but 1 was a model 65 box. I found that interesting as the OP stated that they weren't the most common box available. I had kind of expected mostly model 10s. I think they were all Bangor Punta era. This thread makes me want to fill one if them

Great guns all.
I lucked onto this Ladysmith as it came into the LGS while I was in the store. Had some rust and pitting, but in the box and "purse"
Probably should have shipped it to S&W for a refinish (may still do that) but instead just polished away:

I enjoyed reviewing the excerpts from this thread. I recently acquired a 3" 65-5 HB-RB in 95% condition. I can attest it didn't come to me at the 2010 prices qouted here but at $675! The DA is crisp and the SA breaks at 4lbs as indicated on the trigger scale. I have been smart and EDC' a SP101 2 1/4 with which I have not felt undergunned making carry with as I don't frequent locals or travel at times in which I may need the capacity of a semi-auto. Now if I can only find an IWB holster to accomodate my 65

I love my 65-3! The only change I've made is I've added Hogue grips as they fit my big paws better. It's debatable what's more accurate, it or my Kimber Custom TLE II 1911 in .45. I rarely use it as a carry gun. I have a 60-9 for when I want a .357 wheelgun in my pocket. It's more my "sitting in the living room one evening and hear a funny noise outside" gun.

This old girl has been with me on most backpacking trips and is my go-home-gun if the SHTF while at work or away.

Just look at that pinned bull barrel. Model 65-1, Cost - $200. (12-1977)

Default 65-1

I bought my 65-1 in October 1978 for $128.00 new. Had it made rb and added pachmayer rubber grips. Carried it daily for 9 years until we switched to autos. It has at least 20000 rounds, silver tips, 38+p and wadcutters. It was my back-up on SWAT operations.
I shot a couple perfect scores on the old ppc course with it.

There are many who love the model 65. I carry one quite often as it rests easy on the hip and easily conceals under a shirt.
I have a Mass. State Police 65-2 and a NYSP 65-3, both around 98%. I love them both and they each shoot very well.
There was an auction earlier in the year where a pristine 65-3 with box and all goodies went for top dollar.
100% NIB S&W Model 65 .357 Magnum 3" Heavy Barrel : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
It would take a lot to get me to sell mine as I don't see the three inch models very often.

Default i love any all models begining with a 6, including the 65

My wife found and bought a 65-1 new unfired in original box box a couple years ago, she wax actually looking for a snub nose 38 at the time and came across the model 65, about a year later I found and bought a model 60 no dash when I asked her to trade her model 65 for the model 60 I just got she absolutly refused to trade me. I searched for a model 65 for myself and ended up finding a model 64 instead.
In the mean time trying to find myself a model 65, I found and now have models 60, 63, 64, 65, and 66.

I was lucky enough to find this 65-5 in 3" local here in Penna. I paided for it but figure these are getting harder to find. Came with original box and matching grips. I put together the paperwork and tool kit, she is complete now. Nice addition to the collection.

My two favorite K-frame guns are the 65 and 66 with 3" barrels. I have a -2 66 and a -3 65 and both just have a balance that none of the others have...
