smith model 36 serial number question
bought a model 36 today and was wondering if the number under the grips and on the inside cylinder arm is my serial number

Those are called assembly numbers. They are not the serial number, they were just used in the assembly process.

The numbers on the grips should match the serial number.
If they don't then the grips are not original.
