1st was an 8 3/8" Model 14-3. Not all that rare, but I don't believe I've ever actually seen one before. I know they were an option and there doesn't seem to be a premium for them, but they've still got to be pretty scarce in the grand scheme of production numbers. What say ye??

Next was a NIB(?) Model 10-7 4" blue with magna style grips. It has a lanyard ring like the Royal Hong Kong Police revolver pictured in SCSW. On the back strap it is engraved "C&E 1257". It is in a blue plastic pistol case stye of S&W box with factory barcode labels with the serial number of the gun printed on the label. AEP31xx. Dealer said it was one of the guns that RSR had gotten from Smith several years ago that were supposedly overuns from a contract with Singapore. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know how many of these were produced/released? If there is any scarcity to this variation, I might be inclined to go back and get it. I just thought it was neat. Model number dates it to 1977 according to SCSW. Priced at $450. Worth it as a collectible or just another shooter?

The long barreled 14 may not be all that scarce or collectible, but having once had one, they are great shooters. I wish I had kept mine.

I have a RHKP mdl 10 and paid a lot less than 450. I dont remember the details of the C&E marked guns, but someone will be along shortly to fill us in. They were either part of the order and never shipped over or were issued to a different department or something. I still think its priced too high.

If the 14 is priced about the same, I might buy it and enjoy shooting it.

If the 14 was under $450 and nice sounds OK. The AEP ser# should be 1984. If it is unfired, that is a model 10 that they aren't going to make again, ever. If it isn't digging into the rice-and-beans money, you could offer $400 and worst case is you can pay the original price. Joe

I think the C&E stood for Customs and Excise. Not sure if it was also made for Hong Kong or not.

I lucked onto an 8 3/8" 14 a few years back at a show in Chattanooga, dealer sold it to me for $285! No box, about 98%. It is extremely accurate and easy to shoot. Looks abit odd, but works great, you'll enjoy that one.

that is a nice M14 I saw it yesterday, when I saw it a guy across the isle had it, I checked it out, then was walking around pondering the asking price, came back around 15~20 minutes later for a closer look and the loud mouth little guy with all the gold had on his table asking $550.

I didn't buy it. I saw it on the guy's table for $550. Thought it was way high, nice gun but not worth that kind of money. What was the other dealer asking for it?

the first guy offered it to me for 375. It had some kinda target grips I couldn't readily indentify so I was calling a friend to figure out what they were, by the time I got back to look again those grips were on a 5in WWII M&P that I'd seen walking around earlier and the M&P's pac's were now on the long M14.

Something else about it struck me as a little odd, it had a 6D serial number (6D9007 IIRC), I thought that shoulda been an M&P serial number and not one found on a K frame masterpiece gun.

I was going back for a follow up closer inspection then found it across the isle for $550, I didn't pursue it any further. It looked like a pretty clean gun, I only saw two finish boogers worth noting, I had not yet cut the tie wrap to inspect the mechanicals, but at $550 it was moot anyway. I was considering it if I coulda got away for about $350, I didn't want it bad enough to go $550.

I suspect at $550 we'll see it again at NATC in 2 weeks

Week ago Sat. I was able to acquire a Pre-14, (K38 Target Masterpiece) 6" at a gun show. Nice 5 screw about 95% condition, BUT rear sight was removed, and front sight altered and a Ultra Dot sight installed on a B Square mount. It also wore ugly Pachmayer grips. immediately replaced the grips, and have located a new front and rear sight via Forum members to restore it to original. I may leave the Ultra Dot on it awhile, as it is amazingly accurate. Has a fantastic trigger (after I removed the huge trigger shoe which had been glued to the trigger). Took a 2 hour soak in acetone to loosen up the glue and tap off the trigger shoe. I was able to get the gun originally for $350, which I don't feel is out of line. The Ultra Dot is worth over $100 if I decide to sell it to cover the replacement of the original sights.

Do you know anything about these RSR guns. Supposedly guns that were never shipped to intended destination, then wholesaled out in blue plastic S&W boxes. I'd sure like more information. I'm really tempted to see if its still available at the next show I go to and try to dicker on it.

Wish I had seen the WWII M&P. $375 for the Model 14, especially wearing target grips, sounds like it would have been a good deal. I did see a lot of other interesting goodies at the show, especially in the way of Smiths, but most of the dealers are proud of what they have! One guy was walking around with a couple of handguns in a pistol case, one of which was a Model 29-2, blued and I think was a 6", but could have been a 6 1/2". Original target grips, but had some finish issues. Asking price was $475. I was on the way out the door, but should have taken a little more time with it and maybe tried to haggle a little bit. I've thought about it a lot since Saturday and realize I may have blown on that one. They'll be others though I'm sure. Just makes me wonder how many of those guys walking around with pistol cases have some really good deals just waiting to be snapped up. You can be sure that in the future, I'll be a lot nosier!
