does it have a flat latch, or the later sculpted latch? does it have diamond grips, and are they numbered (inside right panel, probably) to it? i would say you are in the 1967-1968 range, but we could probably narrow it down a little more! they changed from the flat latch in 1966, and changed from the diamond grip in 1968, and changed to the j prefix serial number sometime in 1969.

The latch is the later sculpted one. No diamond grips. But the grips serial number matches the gun. This gun still has a perfect finish and grips. Any idea on the value? Oh yeah, and there is no J prefix.

The shooters on this site know their weapons. They are also polite.
My first post on this site was about my model 36, which I have on me as I type this. Mine was manufactured in the late 70s. Why do I carry a little 5 shot J frame when I could be carrying a high capacity polymer wonder pistol? It just feels right........

I know the feelin! I have a Glock 26 I carry a lot. It's all scratched up and I don't care. But, I am thinking about getting a nice leather holster for this 36 and carrying it when I am feeling a little 'old school'

man, that would put you right at late 68, or more likely, early 69. sounds like a nice one! we need pics!!!!

as for value, if it is mint, i'd have a hard time parting with it for less than 500.00.

Can anyone help me dating a Model 36 I just picked up? It's a handsome little revolver in quite excellent condition. It has a sculpted latch, no diamond on the small grips, serial # AEJ32XX. Thanks!

I purchased a Mod 36 snub for $125 from a friend of mine in the mid 90's. It is unfired, in the box with it's original paper wrap and wipe cloth. SN 555852. I think it is from 1967 or 68. Is this correct?

same serial range. same questions. flat latch ended in 66. diamond grips ended in 68. (make sure grips are original to gun!) you can usually narrow it down pretty close.

more pics!

Not flat latch and has diamond grips. So 67 or 68.
