Blued, N Frame revolver, 5" barrel, square butt, in wooden presentation case with all tools and paperwork. Box and interior flocking are in excellent condition...especially the interior flocking. I rarely see any of this vintage in this great shape.
Pinned and recessed, target hammer and trigger, Bauman ramp front sight. Walnut checkered factory medallion target grips.
Excellent condition.

Not a GREAT deal..butt in IMHO.. the box, papers.. tools are worth $100.00.. that puts the gun at $735.00.. I'd start at $785..OTD and go from there..

I would say too high, even with the box and contents, but as with most things it depends on how badly you want it. To me, it is about a $650 package, but I am not looking for one .

I would ask "How close can we get to $650-700" and work it from there. Who knows they just may need to move some inventory and you've got nothing to lose, but at least you will find out what the real bottom line is and then you can make up your mind if it's worth it to you. Works for me........sometimes.

Walk in with $750 cash and let them know you can leave (Out The Door, Today Only price) with either the gun or the cash. Then do just that. Smile when you make the offer. I think that's a fair price with the presentation case. The 5" is a favorite and few were made with the case.
My guess is that they will take it. It would be a fair deal and your Smith will go up in value faster than the cash would.

Fair price, don't see many 5"ers in new condition. Love mine, bought new 1982, sure a long way from new now and won't be for sale in my lifetime.

I'm trying to decide between this one or a 25-2 78/79 model 97% or better condition for 650.00 no box. Which one is the better deal right now?

Well I have a 686 7 shot .357. So maybe the 45 25-2 is the way to go.

If you love the gun and will enjoy it, the extra few $$ won't matter because 5" 27's don't grow on trees.

To justify some of the prices I have paid for 27s, I think about it like this. If you could walk into your LGS and buy one new just like you describe with presentation case, what would it cost?? I would say a bit more than that $835, and the fact is, you can't and the ones that are out there are few and far between.. Just my thoughts

You can certainly make a lower offer but if that fails, and if you want THAT revolver...as you describe it, especially in that barrel length...I would buy it and not look back... JMHO

They did not start making the model 27 in the presentation cases until around 1975. I don't know how long they made them that way either, as I have seen later production back in the cardboard box. I dont' know whether you should get this one or not, but I can tell you I have not seen any lately near that price and I can also tell you that I would not sell mine anywhere near that cheap!!

I purchased mine new in 1976 as I recall. Montgomery Wards for those of you who may remember. Hard to find in the condition you describe, a quality, well balanced, high end, gorgeous firearm. I agree, try to get it cheaper of course, then by it regardless. What is a hundred bucks in the long run. When you purchase a new truck, do you really pass because it is a few hundred more than you were hoping to pay for it? No, you by it and watch it depreciate as you drive it off the lot. That will not happen with the revolver you describe. No offense, but a no brainer IMHO......assuming it is what you really want. The shear pleasure of owning such a firearm will, in a short time, far exceeded the $800 bucks you will be spending on it.

My advice would be buy it if you want it. Tomorrow it will be higher, they aren't making anymore. In my area you very rarely even see them.

I guess for a 5" I thought that would be about right, not a deal but going rate.
